I have been working at Bluenose full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

I have loved so far my experience at Bluenose. I have had three very interesting projects and I worked with very nice people. I had to pick up quite a bit of software skills to achieve production level code. Bluenose let me take hadoop and Python classes and attend the conferences necessary to keep up with the very fast evolving field of Big Data. I can say say it has been overall my best work experience in 15 years....

    Cons

It is a start up and it comes with its load of hard work but that makes it more interesting too.

I have been working at Bluenose full-time

    Pros

Bluenose allows you to create your own work environment to achieve your goals. Every employee interacts closely with each department and is able to closely collaborate on projects. There are always more challenges that you are able to take on. Employees are given free lunch, snacks, and flexibility with their schedule. The office is in a great location that is walking distance to many coffee bars and restaurants.

    Cons

Like any startup, priorities change according to market landscape and opportunity. You need to be onboard for the challenge and able to quickly adapt.

    Advice to Management

Continuous and open communication will always be key to helping employees adapt to the company changes.

"You're not just a number here..."

I have been working at Bluenose full-time

      Pros

This is my second experience working for an early startup company. I would say it's been another great experience so far. Everyone here is so eager to help one another, and questions or even suggestions are always welcomed. I appreciate the leadership's willingness to provide visibility into the companies success, struggles, and future. Makes you feel you're part of the bigger picture, and not just a number.

      Cons

Bluenose is like any other startup, it's gone through many changes just in the year I've been here. If you can't roll with the punches and adapt quickly and easily, then this is probably not for you.

      Advice to Management

Continue to believe in your vision and your employees. You've started something great, and I look forward to watching it continue.

      I worked at Bluenose full-time

      Pros

I really struggled to come up with some valid pros. The problem is there really aren't any. They did provide the baseline that is expected from a Silicon Valley startup, but that is just the cost of doing business, and in truth it was mediocre at best, so none of that is pros, its more like status quo.

      Cons

This is where it gets interesting. (1) Bluenose is not honest with its employees. They often misrepresent job roles, how the company is doing, and generally what is going on. They make a show of transparency, but it is really smoke and mirrors. I know from my own experience, that I was told a lot of things that were just NOT true. (2) Bluenose is NOT honest with its customers. I observed vaporware being sold so many...

I have been working at Bluenose full-time for more than 2 years

      Pros

I came to Bluenose from a company with over 1000+ employees. I had little to no interaction with management, unclear and poorly defined goals, and my professional growth and career advancement were not remotely a priority for my direct manager. I was destined to become another "cog" in the machine. At Bluenose I am frequently engaged with my CEO and VP, and my goals and personal expectations are clearly defined. More...

      Cons

Being a startup company, things are constantly evolving. However, I am not micro managed, and I am expected to identify and voice any issues that may hinder my success. This can be very difficult for those that cannot manage themselves effectively.

      Advice to Management

“Whatever course you decide upon, there is always someone to tell you that you are wrong. There are always difficulties arising which tempt you to believe that your critics are right. To map out a course of action and follow it to an end requires courage.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

I worked at Bluenose full-time for more than 2 years

      Pros

I received a paycheck every week. I received catered lunch and there were snacks. These are all things that every startup has. Many of the people I worked with were great and my coworkers were some of the hardest working people I've worked with. There was significant growth in customer base percentage wise, but when you start from such a small number that isn't hard to achieve. The real test will be if they renew.

      Cons

The positive reviews were requested by the CEO to the rest of the company. The CEO is one of the most dishonest untrustworthy people I've ever worked under. DO NOT TRUST ANYTHING HE SAYS. It was difficult to respect him and a few folks left because they didn't feel like he was a capable leader. He will take credit for things that aren't his doing and he will not hesitate to throw people under the bus. I have seen him...

      Advice to Management

Don't lie to your employees, don't throw them under the bus or bad mouth them when they no longer work there or even if they still work there, build a real culture, and most importantly get a new ceo.

I have been working at Bluenose for more than 2 years

      Pros

It has been my experience in the past 20 months that there is tremendous opportunity here. However, you have to want it. Which translates into working hard, being accountable, and not just doing the work - but putting your passion behind your work. I've been afforded the following Pros: * Mentorship * Leadership * Constructive Feedback (a means to improve myself) * Adequate time off * Great benefits ...

Bluenose is a start up. Like all start ups, it can feel like there isn't enough resource or time or tooling to accomplish everything that you want to accomplish. Start up environments can require a person to pick and choose areas of focus and be disciplined about getting the work done. This is a clear Con as there are so many things to accomplish, it can be frustrating to not be able to get everything accomplished...

      I worked at Bluenose

      Pros

      - I liked my team members. I imagine it is like being in prison together. You form unlikely friendships. - I learned what to avoid in a startup. - There were opportunities to learn new tech and I picked what I worked on for a brief period of time. The work itself wasn't very difficult and the tech stack used wasn't as bad as other places I have worked.

      Cons

      - Every day was a crisis. The management would lie to each other and themselves about what was "complete." When the product didn't live up to what management had told customers, it all fell back on the product team. - It was expected of us to work ALL THE TIME. Not just some late nights which is pretty normal but I was on call. On call is fine if that is what is posted in the job description. I asked about this in my...

I take reviews very seriously and always reflect on what I could do better as a leader. However, I have to say that this review just doesn't ring true. I can't recall a *single* instance of raised voices in the 2.5 years of our company. It's not our culture and isn't condoned. ...

      I worked at Bluenose

      Pros

If you want to work for a "SaaS" company, you'll get to learn a lot because their customers are SaaS companies and share a lot of data.

      Cons

Leadership was not forthcoming and hid a lot of crucial information CEO fired employees with no notice CEO hid how incomplete the product was and misrepresented company's growth throughout Terrible culture Terrible growth prospects

      Advice to Management

Be a leader not a dictator. Stop throwing people under the bus. Take accountability for your mistakes. Start being honest with employees.

Catered lunch, little micro-management, most of the people are nice, interesting stepping stone place to get some experience in a "hot" field. One of the leadership team is world class.

      Cons

The business prospects look bad, really bad. People are quitting or being laid off seemingly every week.
