flexible environment - so can create what you like
no direction, treated unfairly, wouldn't get much work during the day then required to work evenings/weekends. Expected to be "on call" like an ER doctor. Bad management and work was handled very poorly.
I worked at Blyth full-time (More than 10 years)
The collegial work environment at the corporate office was one of the best things about working at Blyth. In addition, the opportunity for professional growth were virtually unlimited; it was not unusual for employees to move into new functional areas. Finally, the company was always run with the utmost of integrity.
The company has transitioned from a multi-channel marketer of candles and home fragrance products, health and wellness products and other household convenience items to a direct seller of candles and home fragrance products. It has struggled with sales declines in recent years and hasn't yet succeeded in turning this around. It was recently acquired by a private equity firm so is no longer a public company.
Advice to Management
Make sure you keep top of mind the importance of human capital. Don't lose sight of the need to identify and develop the kind of employees that will help accomplish the objectives. Be sure to articulate the vision to employees and make sure they understand their role and that the company understands the employee's needs.

Many different iterations of strategy and multiple reorganizations made for a tumultuous environment. Too many chiefs and therefore not enough money left to pay for enough indians to do the work.
Advice to Management
Minimize the Executive Staff--way too many VP's for a company of this size.
