I have been working at Boar's Head full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

It's a job.... there are no health, dental, or vision benefits available unless you are employed for a year.

    Cons

Even though you are listed and hired as a full time employee, you will be lucky to make 40 hours a week and is closely regulated by management. Employees are required to arrive at the beginning of one's shift at 4am and there is no compensation for working odd hours. Unless you are hard up for money, do not apply. You are just a number. Jobs of the same caliber fetch $5-$6 per hour at minimum.

    Advice to Management

Pay your employees more. They all deserve it. Quit stretching them so thin that they are transparent. Offer PROPER training instead of throwing them to the wolves. If you compensate your employees with monetary and health benefits, you WILL see a HUGE difference in productivity and will have a overall better workplace.

    I worked at Boar's Head full-time

    Pros

Decent pay after time. Great benefits and help from the benefits personnel. There is autonomy with work schedules but little structured training or guidance.

    Cons

H.R. is close to a joke with poor leadership. Sr. Managers are all from the manufacturing side without true sales backgrounds. Combine this fact with a poor HR department and you have a perfect storm of sales professionals and distributors who literally work in an atmosphere of fear and job security paranoia. Zero data is shared with the sales managers to react and adjust to markets needs until it's too late to be effective. The sales managers credibility with the DSD distributors is compromised because of the lack of information and trust Sr managers share with them. The distributors know this and managers struggle to hold them accountable to "protect the brand"

    Advice to Management

Appreciate the distributors in the DSD model beyond the typical "we are a family" mantra. Sr management listens...to the distributors they self select and use to manipulate the rest of the DSD distributors.

    Pros

Plenty of opportunities to sample great product and work with great people.

    Amazing benefits.

    Family owned company.

Upper management lacks traditional corporate training and education and attempts cross training at the expense of the employees.

When computers fail plan on 100 hour weeks.

    Advice to Management

    I worked at Boar's Head full-time

    Pros

Family owned business... if mistakes are made, they are more easy to forgive than a corporate environment.

    Cons

Ridgeland office is ran by 80% family. If an issue arises with an employee--- they don't ask for your side of the story, they simply make a choice and let you know where they stand on it.

    Advice to Management

If issues arise, hear both sides of the story. If you overlook a serious issue with one employee, chances should be given to others equally.

    I worked at Boar's Head full-time

    Pros

    Still a family business
Depending on the department it's a good place to work
IF IT leadership would change to support the business instead of developing software I would have stayed until I had to retire

    Cons

IT has gone in the wrong direction, they are no longer concerned with the core business, being THE premium deli products company, it's now about software development and what some leaders think are cool tools for databases and "automation"

    Advice to Management

To the executives: while some of the change in IT has been good to fortify the environment and insure that production and distribution function as close to 100% as possible, some of the change to software development is costing you money and taking away from the environment to protect the ability to keep doing what your core business is supposed to be
IT leaders: this company is a family company that does one thing better than anyone else, stop trying to make it a software company or a SAAS or a IoT or whatever you did at your last job, concentrate on fortifying what we have to keep the company performing, it's not about IT it's about Premium Deli products
