RecommendsPositive OutlookApproves of CEOI have been working at Board of Child Care full-time for more than 5 years
Pros
Invests heavily in training and implementing evidence-based practices in its programs. Great health insurance and 403b retirement match (3% - rare in today's market) Executive team does try to be available / takes feedback seriously. Leaders are willing to make changes / shake up the status quo.
Cons
Some support departments need better systems to make it less cumbersome for the workforce to get what they need.
Advice to Management
Still feels sluggish / slow to get a decision sometimes.

Pros
You will meet a lot of people.
Cons
Poor management. A person can be a supervisor without having the experience or preparation to do the job. If you have connections, you don't have to worry about doing your job well: favoritism. They have a lot of staff that are not qualified to do the assigned job. The students with mental issues can hit you so be aware of your surroundings. Poor pay. Forget about your sick/vacation pay, it changes month by month... without you knowing it ("computer issues"). You won't get it back when you leave so forget about it. HR doesn't look for your well-being. During your interview everything is smiles and "we're here for you" after you get the job they don't provide a good service.

Learn how to be a manager. Start a meeting by saying something positive (good job, great accomplishment). If you start by saying what everyone is doing wrong the moral goes down. Don't send an email to the whole department saying what an employee is not doing correctly. Speak to the employee privately in your office. These are tasks that a manager needs to handle appropriately.

Pros
The idea of these services is great and needed. It’s the actually delivery of services that is the problem.
Cons
Claim to be a supportive environment but paranoia is rampant. Lots of turn over, management not seeming qualified and constant underhanded information gathering. Super unhealthy environment when everyone is constantly in fear of being fired. But the crazy thing is that the problem staff stay while the good staff seem to be dismissed. Makes one wonder why that is if leadership is strong. Doesn’t make sense so beware!
Advice to Management
Realize that there is a culture of mistrust, under handed gossip and targeting of certain staff of their supervisor just doesn’t like them or the staff disagree with something. Direct care staff have the largest amount of info to share but they aren’t treated with much respect nor do they have much input into policy and practice. Lots going on that’s never talked about or addressed for fear or retribution. Indicates... a sick system even with all of the good intentions.

Pros
You make real bonds with the children. Coworkers are very nice as well.
Cons
This place is crazy and needs some true legal attention. If you are getting into this job because you really care about the children succeeding academically, do not do it. You can be trying your best to have a student excel in the classroom and constantly have supervisors/administration step on your toes about a student you work with which only makes your job harder. Admin at Strawbridge only care about keeping... students behaved so they can keep them in their program for money, you will see that staff who been at BCC for over 5 years are the same way. They do not care about these students learning all they care about is them behaving. These students are not learning anything in their classrooms, they spend most of their time on “free time”, using the computer and taking walks. I thought that working here I would be helping students better understand a subject that is tricky to them but it is more like firefighting and babysitting. God forbid you feel unsafe with a kid! If you go to your supervisor or admin team about feeling unsafe with a kid they do nothing about it. Admin doesn’t care about staff. In fact, a student had sent a staff to the hospital needing stitches and that staff was fired before his doctor even cleared him to come back to work. This place does not truly care about anyone but the kids because the kids equal more money for them. They lost and are still losing a lot of students so they only have about 20 kids and the school is K-12. If you are looking to work at this place or already in the training process, start looking for another job. Do not expect to stay here long term. I read these reviews in my training and didn’t take them seriously and that is my biggest regret.

You guys have to start holding these children to some type of academic standards and placing them in the programs that they truly belong in. Some hybrid students need to be in Certificate. Some highschool students need your recommendations for public school. This program is funded by the church yet you guys lack faith that you will bring in new students others leave. Do what is best for a student and trust God to... replace them with more students. If people see that you all truly care about students and that you are running a school and not a jail you will have no problem getting referrals. I don’t want to see this place become like Good Sheppard, but when your passion is not in the right place it will most definitely show. Value your staff who put in hard work daily. Value your students who deserve a more school-like experience.

You learn a lot about yourself and how much management makes a difference in a company
Cons
Pay is very low, hardly any support from management, you have to watch your back because the company will try to blame you for anything that goes wrong. Very high turnover rate. Also very anti LGBTQI
