I have been working at Board of Child Care full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great health care and benefits for this line of work. Decent wage compared to other companies in the same field (depending on location). Plenty of time off. Plenty of opportunities to move or change positions within the company.

    Cons

Administration could be more supportive of staff. Work can often times be too stressful for the wage. Depending on the location, youth can be extremely challenging.

    Advice to Management

Support staff more. After all we are the ones who keep the company moving. The programs are often times too relaxed and rewarding in favor of of the youth, which can foster a climate of mistreatment and abuse towards staff. Pay is decent compared to similar positions within other companies, however the work is much more strenuous compared to other companies in the same field.

I worked at Board of Child Care full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Pretty much unlimited overtime, some great youth and free food.

    Cons

The kids can do whatever they want if they don't care about consequences because the consequences are basically equivalent to standing in a corner or losing tv time. Management could care less about staff because they are EXTREMELY un-involved with the actual youth and staff that work the floor. Staff gossips absolutely non-stop (complete high school environment), so prepare to be over analyzed no matter what you do. A lot of the staff sleep/drink with each other and all call out at the same time so you're short staffed and it creates an unsafe environment. Prepare to ALWAYS work over time every week even if you don't want to and you will have 2 days each month, every month on your days off that are mandatory you are on call. Also, during the interview they will pitch this organization to have so many benefits and opportunities, but there's hardly ANY room for growth. Take my word for it -- you'd rather work at Sheetz than this joint.

    Advice to Management

Grow a pair and discipline staff members that are doing something wrong, even if they are your self proclaimed "favorites".

the students there are out of control and there is nothing staff can do about it. I am surprised this agency is still open

    Advice to Management

changes! Change is needed if you expect agency to keep employees!

I have been working at Board of Child Care full-time

    Pros

There are still dedicated people hanging on

    Cons

    Leadership-CEO
Lack of care for youth, staff and the overall mission

    Advice to Management

Your egos and focus to create a new regime lost a once respected agency that provided care for all involved. CEO and other leaders should be selfless and leave maybe there is a chance...but likely not.

I worked at Board of Child Care full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    -Free food
    - Working with children (When they were not having a crisis)
-Overtime (literally take advantage of it)
-work 4 days on off 3 days

    Cons

-This was not a team environment, it was every staff worker for themselves
-Constant fear of losing your job
-IT IS THE KIDS WORD AGAINST YOURS (If a kid lies and reports you, even if it is documented otherwise, you will be investigated)
    -Constantly threatened by Upper management
-Management is on the kids side, NOT YOURS. If something goes down, good luck
-Bossed around by staff you have been working there more than 6 months
-If the kids don't like you, they will do everything in their power to get you removed. They will make up stories and lie to their social workers.
-The kids are the boss and everyone works for them (Trust me. They get like $100k per kid that is there, so they need those kids more than they need you)

If I can be completely honest, working with the kids wasn't the worst part. There were some good days I had with the kids. The boys don't take well to female staff unless you have built a great rapport with them or bribe them. DO NOT walk in there acting like you will change these kids. These kids have some severe behavior issues and will turn on you like a pancake. Make sure if have thick skin and a back bone. I was told during training that most people dont last more than 3 months

I have been working at Board of Child Care (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The job was close to home.

    Cons

Inexperienced Administration, Retaliation and harrassment by Human Resources and Administration, high turn over rate and no transparency with the pay scale to a name few.

    Advice to Management

Fire everyone at the top and start over.

I worked at Board of Child Care full-time

    Pros

They have nice offices...for top-level administrators who are filled with their own self-importance.

    Cons

The management style is as follows: If a kid threatens an executive of the organization, he or she is removed. If a kid threatens a social worker or case manager, it's documented. If a kid threatens a direct care staff, you're told to suck it up and move on. Oh, and everyone on staff quits left and right, so be prepared to work some crazy hours, which is crazy because half the beds and houses are EMPTY!

    Advice to Management

Stop acting like you're soooo important. And you know what's best for the kids. Most of the high-level staff didn't rise to the top with the type of kid at BoCC. Add programming that makes a difference, not the kind that make things worse. And finally, pay your employees. You're skipping out on paying the help that keeps the place running, while getting watter bottles and notebooks for the admin staff.

I have been working at Board of Child Care full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits package and health insurance. Depending on your job title you work four days a week and have three off.

    Cons

Very long hours if you are a child care worker. They have 10 and and even 12.5 hour shifts. There is no scheduled break which is ridiculous because the job can be so demanding and stressful that one really does need a scheduled lunch break to clear their head. Very high turnover rate.

    Advice to Management

Incorporate breaks for child care workers.
Increase staff to child ratio. Have at least 2 workers during night shift on each unit to better endure safety for all residents.
