Fantastic Opportunity for Any Engineering Student

    Pros

Working as a Co-Op for Bobcat was an outstanding experience. They make you feel as you are a vital part of the team. You will be put on real tasks and never once did I feel like the classic intern who just got coffee for his boss. I would highly recommend that anyone who has the opportunity takes advantage of it.

    Cons

Sometimes there can be a disconnect between the engineers and the factory (Gwinner ND) workers, however often times they both become your best resources.

    A Very Dynamic Workplace

    Pros

The pay for hourly workers is pretty good, especially for line workers and co-ops or interns. Large company with many projects at all times; lots of information to learn and network connections to make! Bobcat offers many opportunities to employees such as training camps and courses on how to use their products, programs, and other programs that may be useful in the professional sphere.

    Cons

Many teams work over 40 hours per week. Hours can vary widely depending on the state of the world (namely Covid-19). Communication within the company and its various departments and teams could stand for some improvement, with so many employees it is difficult at times to keep everyone up to date. As with many large companies, there is a hierarchy within the workforce that sometimes can cause tension and miscommunications between upper-level and lower-level employees. Better communication would definitely improve this area.

    EHS Co-op in Gwinner, ND

    Pros

The EHS position looks great on a resume because it is pretty unique. You get exposed to general health and safety as well as OSHA audits and still get to do a fair amount of manufacturing engineering.

    Cons

If you are an engineering student, this might not be for you. A large part of the position is safety, and that typically means that you are not doing any engineering. That being said, there is still a fair amount of engineering work that will be offered to you, but you will not have the same experience that a typical ME coop would have.

    Manufacturing Engineering Co-op

    Pros

-Became familiar with real-world practices and processes -Was exposed to 5S and Lean Six-Sigma terminology and practices -Lots of freedom and independence in designing manufacturing equipment -Potential for lots of hours during busy times -Good intern pay -Exposure to modern, heavily automated (robots) facilities -Good exposure to a large variety of machining processes

    Cons

-Not always busy in Manufacturing -Sometimes assigned "busy work" -The fork lift drivers can be a little crazy with their driving - get off the path if you hear a honk anywhere nearby -Company only offers 8-month co-ops unless you've already done a co-op, then a summer internship is an option. It would be nice to have summer internship options

    Pros

Great experience with some cool products.

    Cons

Most senior level engineers don't have engineering degrees. The pay is awful for being in such a boring area of the country.
