    Doesn't Recommend
    Neutral Outlook

I worked at Boeing full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good pay versus competitors, flexible hours, good health and dental benefits. You learn a lot from your coworkers and experiencing interesting work. Lots of resources to help you in your job. 80 hours of sick leave each year.

    Cons

Too much bureaucracy. too many layers of management with very little to no real leadership. Lots of managers but not many leaders. Very hard to transfer to the job you really want because managers won't let you go. Job security is a worry every year with layoffs occurring and the local union SPEEA not helpful. Overtime pay in Seattle is a joke ( $6.50 an hour plus regular pay). Work fluctuates and sometimes the work is not very challenging. Projects takes years to be approved due to decisions being made by committee and managers second-guessing each other. Your time in your Engineering Group can be a blessing with the right people and manager however if you get stuck in the wrong group with a terrible manager your life will be hell. Boeing recently cut the pension for engineers and yearly salary raises are significantly reduced. Boeing also has way too much outsourcing where the company is losing control of the products and losing capabilities.

    Advice to Management

Cut several layers of management. change the culture to make sure people are the most valuable resource. Take control the product and stop Outsourcing everything. Overtime pay needs to be changed.

    No opinion of CEO

I worked at Boeing as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Lots of opportunities to learn about the different products and the expectation of you is not set low. It was very exciting to meet a lot of professional engineers and get the opportunity to solve actual real world problems. The material taken from school does apply to this field which is very exciting.

    Cons

Work has some slow days waiting for replies and sometimes it's hard to figure out the right question to ask when working.

    Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at Boeing (More than 8 years)

    Pros

While their benefits are steadily being eroded by senior management, Boeing's Benefits are still some of the best in the game.

    Cons

Raises and promotions have been frozen for six years so that senior and executive management can continue to get their six and seven figure bonuses. Little to no opportunity to move around or find new challenges, you're pretty much stuck in the job you were hired for. To move ahead you have to leave the company.

    Advice to Management

Look at the mass exodus of your mid-career engineers, designers, support personnel and managers. You're hemorrhaging talent to you competition so that you can artificially keep your stock prices up. The company will implode if this trend continues!
