Good benefits package, great culture to work with intelligent individuals.

    Cons

I worked at Boeing full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Boeing offers great medical/dental insurance and 401k matching. They pay for some education expenses, much more than other companies. The work is always interesting

    Cons

In El Segundo, the culture is really uptight. Everyone is pretty stressed all the time. There are many many more men than women, so it feels isolating as a woman. They like to have engineers be managers and those 2 disciplines do not correlate, so some managers are not good at delegating and others are just bad at the interpersonal side of the management job. I've heard it is harder to get promoted at Boeing than other aerospace companies, I've only worked at Boeing so I can't know for sure, but it did seem hard to me!

    Advice to Management

Support the growth and development of the employees. Let people try new tasks when they express an interest in it. And let employees attend relevant training!!! I was never allowed to take the Cost Volume Lead training even though it is essential to my job. I just had to figure things out on my own - very frustrating

I have been working at Boeing full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Boeing has a rich history, with much opportunity to expand the business model of continuing for the next century, but that is up to everyone, not just the managers/executives. Company has phenomenal benefits that are for sure up at the top with other large corporations. 401K has 75% match up 8% contribution: that is 6% of your paycheck in free money. Health, dental and vision are very competitive and beyond the market standard.

    Cons

Lack of dedication and motivation. Many people feel that this is just a "job" rather coming into work with a mentality that they can make/be the difference for the future. As there are many who are self starters and motivators, there needs to be a lot of change to bring out the best out of the employees, which Boeing will benefit from through out their company (BCA, BDS, BMA, etc.)

    Advice to Management

To the executives, there are too many managers/senior managers. I do not believe we can benefit from productivity or even cost, in keeping all these managers at their positions/title; there needs to be a lot of trimming. Also an evaluation of the managers title/position shall be evaluated yearly, aside from their PMs.

I worked at Boeing full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    1) Phenomenal opportunities and experiences if you're at the right place at the right time AND prove that you are a capable worker
    2) Challenging work environment - great place to grow
    3) Great (and I mean GREAT) people
    4) Was always treated with respect

    Cons

    1) Very little (to no) room to advance and grow in decreasing business environment
    2) The lower level engineers virtually have little to no opportunity for promotions no matter how good they are - decreases moral, forces attrition
    3) Since business is down morale is down - very down, forces attrition

    Advice to Management

Advice to Execs: Focus on new business and how to compete - make it your top, top, top priority. No more lip service. Focus on making your people first not you first! If you do not, the trend of people leaving will continue and Boeing - El Segundo will cease to exist.

I worked at Boeing as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good benefits, even for interns: Health insurance, 401K matching. Onsite cafeteria. The location is not bad. Intern housing provided and is very nice! Great work life balance, with flexible work hours and remote working options.

    Cons

Mediocre pay, although relatively decent for the defense industry. Too much company inertia. The company speaks of innovation, but there's too much bureaucracy and it's too hard to get innovative ideas seen, let alone implemented.

Too hard to get needed software tools installed (developers don't have admin access on their own machines). The tech stack is antiquated, with no sign of being updated anytime soon.

    Advice to Management

If you want innovation, then change the entrenched bureaucratic culture, give engineers more control over their development environments, and put some effort into automation and tech stack upgrades.

    Pros

Great benefits and opportunity to move up

    Cons

They are laying off people with tribal knowlede and replacing them with college hires.

    Advice to Management

Engage with employees and thank them for their hard work more often.

I worked at Boeing full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Some departments let people rise fast and give theirs the ability to succeede

    Cons

Not the case in all departments. Lots of people who are willing to mentor and tech concepts. But those guys are unwilling to give a new employee the experiences that would hurt their job security.
