I have been working at Boeing full-time (More than 10 years)

I have been working at Boeing full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Good work-life balance
    Decent Health Plan Options
    Excellent Continuing Education

    Cons

    Non-competitive salary
Little promotion options and no direct career planning
    Work revolves around politics
High level management pushes 'cost, schedule, quality'- impossible feats
    Good 'ol Boys Club
Big Boeing decision-makers focus on cost-cutting which is essentially taking away benefits for employees (no more pension, limited OT, lower health plan, removal of resources, no promotion opportunity and very little raises).

    Advice to Management

Stop stepping on your younger employees or they will leave. Big Boeing is driving the P level down, but the work still needs to be done, so P1/P2s are doing P4/P5 work without the compensation. Many leave after 2-3 years.

I have been working at Boeing full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The benefits are better than almost any company within the Aerospace industry. I would venture to say they are competitive with most of the industries.

    Cons

Promotions can be based on who you know instead of what you know. People with more seniority have been the target of layoffs lately in order to reduce pension costs.

    Advice to Management

Start placing more value on individuals with more experience instead of focusing all of your energy on interns and the younger employees. We are losing our competitive edge by letting the ones with all of the experience leave.

I have been working at Boeing as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

As with most jobs, an internship with Boeing is what you make of it. I've seen people that weren't very assertive in getting tasks that didn't get to do much work, but I was able to do a whole lot of cool tasks because I showed that I can do it well and was willing to go and ask for it. I've learned a great deal here and whether I stay on permanent with Boeing or go elsewhere, this experience will be invaluable.

    Cons

Lots of disorganization and changing priorities. Morale was pretty low among the engineers but it seemed that Boeing really wasn't willing to do what it takes to keep their best engineers, leaving those that can't go elsewhere as their employees.

    Advice to Management

It's a changing workforce and companies that don't adapt will lose their best talent to companies more willing to compensate them. You're much better off paying a few very good engineers solid salaries than paying a whole flock of engineers that can't complete the most basic of tasks low salaries.

I worked at Boeing as an intern

    Pros

As an intern, I was given meaningful and relevant work. I was fully immersed into the team I was working on. Also, there are many beneficial intern programs, tours, and talks to get involved in.

    Cons

They are still a pretty traditional, hierarchical company, but they are working to flatten out and change their ways. There is an age gap between the newer highers and most other people working at Boeing.

I have been working at Boeing full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Generally treats employees very well and has a very competitive compensation package.

    Cons

Boeing is having a rough time in the defense market. It isn't winning as many contracts and the business is starting to feel it with several layoffs and other cost cutting measures.

I worked at Boeing as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Strong mentorship programs
    Best paying internship I've found
Lots of extremely knowledgeable people from vastly different backgrounds
Rotational programs encouraged to gather a wide variety of skillsets

    Cons

    Big corporation feel and culture
Managers were extremely stressed across the board, which discourages people from pursuing management path with this company
Safety campaign, while valuable, was excessive

    Advice to Management

Ensure that managers can delegate some tasks to ease their burden. Hire or promote within more managers so that they aren't constantly in meetings.

I worked at Boeing as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Enjoyed the work.

    People are very nice.

Boeing is working on "Big things". They know they need to change to compete.

    Cons

Consensus decision making at all levels slows down taking action.

Way too much management oversight. Boeing really needs to cut the total number of management positions...the company is bloated.

Organization suffers from having entrenched long-term employees that don't want to change and are able to hide out in plain site due to all the levels of bureaucracy.

    Advice to Management

You are conducting layoffs....you need to cut the total number of middle-managers you have. Consensus decision-making is slowing down/stopping actions that need to occur. Reducing Headcount in the wrong areas and at the wrong levels will not make you ore competitive with Airbus.

I worked at Boeing full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The exposure for working for top Aerospace Company

    Cons

New Graduate: Not much room to advance quickly. Senior staff monopolized projects to show their "value" to the company.

    Advice to Management

Make sure you are developing the new generation of engineers.
