I have been working at Bombardier Aerospace full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good work-life balance. Good local management team in Des Plaines.

    Cons

Looking for any kind of career growth here? Forget it. Very small outpost of the company in Des Plaines. Also, it is an aviation/aerospace company so expect wild fluctuations in the overall business. And, yes, they do RIFs (we just went through at 15% reduction).

I worked at Bombardier Aerospace full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Wholly creative and aggressive in addressing and identifying opportunities, deficiencies and blind spots. My project was very interesting and my manager had open door policy.

    Cons

Rigid structure and not exactly collaborative environment when on inter department cooperative mission. Diplomacy is a must.

    Advice to Management

They are pretty aggressive and ambitious, but at present need to get over the tide, before they can pay attention to other mgmt issues.

I have been working at Bombardier Aerospace full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

High level of confidence given by Senior Management allowing employee to professionally grow. Good social benefits! Young and dynamic team!

    Cons

Lots of hours outside regular business hours without being able to easily forecast personal activity after work.

    Advice to Management

Being more proactive making sure employee life balance is healthy (i.e.: pushing employee to leave early if lots of hours outside regular business hours have been completed).

    Pros

International, complex/fancy products, passionate staff, focus on the personnel development

    Cons

Unstable environment, leadership has changed several times in the last months, value of the stock has decreased over the past few years

    Advice to Management

Keep on solving problems and optimizing, then stabilize the organization. Focus on retention !

I worked at Bombardier Aerospace full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

There are a lot of opportunities at Bombardier Aerospace if you lookout for them. I ended up in the IT department and it was big enough to even move within it. Its big size allows to make many friends and contacts.

    Cons

Some projects are very heavy: in particular when submitting them at first to get approval. Aerospace has its ups and down: get ready to go through both hiring and downsizing periods.

I worked at Bombardier Aerospace as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

The industry is very interesting and you are given high autonomy to perform your functions. The work pace is fast with and challenging. You manage your time and you are expected to deliver results as you progress in your mandate. You are asked to support other projects which give you more exposure and a better understanding of the industry.

    Cons

A lot of bureaucracy and control mechanisms interrelated with its matrix structure. In addition goals and priorities change on regular basis lowering your productivity. Many meeting which make it difficult to focus on your tasks.

I worked at Bombardier Aerospace (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great pay, benefits, focus of personal development (however this depends greatly on where you are in the company). I had a great experience in one division (amazing boss and nice work culture) and a terrible experience in another (inexperienced and frantic management style).

    Cons

Constant layoffs, constant changes in managements, lack of functioning between business units. Working in different divisions is like working in different companies. Lots of bureaucracy but not sure if that's just because this is a large company. Got laid off after 6 years with the company.

    Advice to Management

Must have a respect for personal time of the employee. People with Blackberries are expected to be reachable and responsive at all times which is unreasonable in my opinion.

I have been working at Bombardier Aerospace as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Personnel (for the most part) are smart, easy going, and down to earth
    - Pay and benefits are competitive
    - Work can be challenging depending on the department you work for
    - Excellent work/life balance
    - A good launch pad for your career

    Cons

    - Upper management is disorganized
    - Data overload: lot's of analysts and what not producing information that rarely gets used
    - Lateral movement is more attainable than role advancement
    - Younger employees (due to a wide age gap) are especially disadvantaged when it comes to career advancement
    - The culture is not an adaptive one: lot's of stubbornness among employees and management

    Advice to Management

    - Commit to projects undertaken
    - Invest in younger employees to foster a culture of knowledge transfer and succession
