I worked at Bombardier Aerospace as an intern

    Pros

I managed to land in a team with wonderful people that are willing to help each other out. Improved my soft skills from working in the human resource department and made many connections.

    Cons

Very big company, so your accomplishments may never be truly appreciated by the organization.

I have been working at Bombardier Aerospace full-time

    Pros

Lots of opportunity to grow and advance. Variety of different aircraft to work on. I would recommend the commercial dept because of the opportunity for overtime

    Cons

There are lots of non-certified technicians on the floor that need someone to sign behind them. Even through they are the manufacturer of the aircraft, there is little expertise on the floor regarding the maintenance.

I worked at Bombardier Aerospace as an intern

    Pros

Very interesting job, great work environment, loved the challenges the job brought everyday. Would recommend it to anyone wanting to work in IT.

    Cons

The lack of leadership and overall goal of the internship made it difficult for me to navigate through the systems and the company because of my lack of knowledge.

    Advice to Management

Be more present for employees. I thought the lack of leadership and direction negatively impacted my work and my productivity

    Pros

Aviation is an exciting business to be in! Large company provides a lot of opportunity for development and movement. Great place to learn about aircraft manufacturing and service.

    Cons

Bombardier is Canadian owned but its largest operations are outside Canada. Majority of decisions are made with the perspective of what is best for Canada operations without consultation or consideration of units outside of Canada. Also, units outside Canada operate painfully lean while units in Canada have too many layers, people, positions. There are typically more managers and directors in Canada than in the U.S. This affects retention of talented people that can't get promoted to reach their career goals.

    Advice to Management

Listen and appreciate all your senior leaders when making decisions. Stop making decisions based solely on what is good god Canada. You are a global company, act like one.

Bombardier Learjet was a great place to work. The work environment was good; and company also take good care of employees.

    Cons

There were not enough support documents. The analysis model is not kept up to date sometimes.

    Pros

The insurance, 401k, and other benefits are competitive. The people you'll work with are generally a good group of people and very knowledgeable. 12 hour shifts.

    Cons

The management you'll work for can be difficult at times, very reactive not proactive, work loads can fluctuate so it's difficult on contractors. When you get there you'll need to hit the ground running. Slow people, prior government contractors, or new to aviation grads beware, if you don't find a fast paced rhythm and good mechanical aptitude quickly, you won't last long. 12 hour shifts.

    Advice to Management

After seeing the tides of this business for so long, project the coming storm, especially for parts, tooling, and manpower.
