I worked at Bombardier Aerospace (More than a year)

    Pros

    Good pay. Easy. Flexible scheduling.

    Cons

Unchallenging, nothing to learn. Don't apply your degree.

I have been working at Bombardier Aerospace full-time

    Pros

Good benefits and location is great for starting a family. Work hours are reasonable and coworkers are fun.

    Cons

No compensation for significant overtime or weekend work. Potential to be sent to Canada for months at a time without being compensated more for being away from home and family. Budget control is limiting training and development of individuals. Requirements are not clearly defined and are constantly changing because of it which makes it impossible to prioritize work to be done.

    Pros

Good pay and benefits. Pretty good work/life balance, depending on department.

    Cons

Very little training for employees, first level managers sometimes chosen with very little qualification for the type of work their employees were doing. Upper level management not good with sharing information.

    Advice to Management

Own up to mistakes, also recognize issues with lower level management before all of the valuable workers leave out of frustration.

I worked at Bombardier Aerospace full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Awesome benefits! Night shift not good on the family life. Training limited for store clerks. Your partner can make or break you, depends on who you are working with each night. There are some awesome people there to work with and some not so awesome. Overall a good experience, I was there four years and learned a lot from fellow workers.

    Cons

No where to move up. Good time off, holidays are tough to work around because everyone wants to be off before and after a holiday. Bombardier is a 7 day, 24 hour facility, so that means you could work on a major holiday if a plane is pushing, you will not know if you are going to have off up until the last minute in some cases. Hard to plan a life with all that going on. Not a whole lot of information being shared, to many to do lists being passed down to night shift.

    Advice to Management

If we really have a say in what direction we are going, why not ask what we think and how we should get there since we are the ones doing the job. We could give you real time answers instead of just someone sitting behind a desk who does not have a clue as to what the job really entails. Make everyone be a team player or they need to go, could be an awesome place to work if everyone stepped up and did their fair share.

More training needed, better performance reviews.

I worked at Bombardier Aerospace full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Some opportunity for advancement as long as you are able to toe the line. Bonuses. Offers fairly decent level of benefits. Great co-workers

    Cons

Upper management is only concerned with toeing the line as placed by Montreal. Constant knee jerk reactions to problems instead of looking for and fixing the real problems. Used to have some of the best benefits in the industry but has gradually eroded everything from time off policies to pay scales. Montreal makes stupid decisions and the rest of the company pays the price. Training is a complete joke. Fools the FAA and customers with the "Diamond" awards that are achieved only by having employees lie on their training forms.

    Advice to Management

Go back to what made this company one of the most desired places to be employed. Respect your employees and quit treating them like idiots. They likely know more than you'll ever learn. Enough of the knee jerk reactions to little things. Good grief, this is a dangerous industry but you employ adults. Respect them and their ability to recognize dangerous situations. Seriously, project managers need to check out laddders?!

I have been working at Bombardier Aerospace part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Large company that has solid training procedures in place. Not a lot of micro managing occurred within my group which was nice. Never worried about going to superiors with questions.

    Cons

Sometimes get lost in the shuffle since company is so vast. Not a lot of time was available from upper management for guidance at times. Although there is a instant messaging system in place.

    Advice to Management

    Be a tad more available.

I have been working at Bombardier Aerospace full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good work-life balance. Good local management team in Des Plaines.

    Cons

Looking for any kind of career growth here? Forget it. Very small outpost of the company in Des Plaines. Also, it is an aviation/aerospace company so expect wild fluctuations in the overall business. And, yes, they do RIFs (we just went through at 15% reduction).

    Pros

Good salary. Exciting products. Awesome benefits.

    Cons

No opportunity for growth in many departments. Leadership in very monarchy. Very stressful environment. Constant layoffs leave no room for job security.

    Advice to Management

Provide training opportunities and learn to value people.
