I worked at Bombardier Aerospace full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    +Lots of paid time off.
    +Good benefits packages.
+Got decent pay once I went direct.

    Cons

    -It's only about seniority here.
-Brains or ability to do your job don't matter, all that matters is that you pucker up to anyone who has been there longer even if they are incompetent at their job.
    -Negative people in lead positions.
-10+ year employees basically get away with everything (including being completely unprofessional) and make a big deal out of every little mistake newer employees make.

    Advice to Management

Value people for their skills and abilities to contribute to your accompany, and not just who has showed up the longest. You have many incompetent employees in your salaried ranks (buyers, planners, supervisors) as well as hourly leads that seem to have only been promoted because they kept showing up to work.

    Pros

Aviation is an exciting business to be in! Large company provides a lot of opportunity for development and movement. Great place to learn about aircraft manufacturing and service.

    Cons

Bombardier is Canadian owned but its largest operations are outside Canada. Majority of decisions are made with the perspective of what is best for Canada operations without consultation or consideration of units outside of Canada. Also, units outside Canada operate painfully lean while units in Canada have too many layers, people, positions. There are typically more managers and directors in Canada than in the U.S. This affects retention of talented people that can't get promoted to reach their career goals.

    Advice to Management

Listen and appreciate all your senior leaders when making decisions. Stop making decisions based solely on what is good god Canada. You are a global company, act like one.

    Pros

The insurance, 401k, and other benefits are competitive. The people you'll work with are generally a good group of people and very knowledgeable. 12 hour shifts.

    Cons

The management you'll work for can be difficult at times, very reactive not proactive, work loads can fluctuate so it's difficult on contractors. When you get there you'll need to hit the ground running. Slow people, prior government contractors, or new to aviation grads beware, if you don't find a fast paced rhythm and good mechanical aptitude quickly, you won't last long. 12 hour shifts.

    Advice to Management

After seeing the tides of this business for so long, project the coming storm, especially for parts, tooling, and manpower.

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Bombardier Aerospace full-time

    Pros

Good benefits and location is great for starting a family. Work hours are reasonable and coworkers are fun.

    Cons

No compensation for significant overtime or weekend work. Potential to be sent to Canada for months at a time without being compensated more for being away from home and family. Budget control is limiting training and development of individuals. Requirements are not clearly defined and are constantly changing because of it which makes it impossible to prioritize work to be done.
