I have been working at Bombardier full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Top products in each of its segments make you to be proud to be part of this company!
Presently (since 2015), the company is going through a major transformation, which means a lot of pain (layoffs, work overload etc), but this brings an invaluable learning experience and opportunities!
Big name (in Canada and worldwide)
    Fair working conditions

    Cons

Very conservative environment (at BU and corporate offices):
    strong hierarchy,
little to no of modern flexibility like work from home,
very formal and usually non-efficient objectives setting and performance review
    Outdated offices (morally and physically)
Group insurance gets from bad to worse

    Advice to Management

In terms of business processes: this company needs major improvements at every single level! Left hand does not know that the right hand even exists!!!
Knowledge / data management is a disaster - a MUST to become a top priority for the execs

    Pros

Famous big company. You can achieve a great experience: very specialized jobs part of a complex activity. You will get the big picture of a business.

    Cons

Your salary is not as big as your work responsibilities. Once the project end you probably get out. You will not be given the same importance as in a smaller company.

    Advice to Management

Find solutions to minimize the employees fluctuation. Give to the emplyee the sentiment of recognition. Human resources has to be a little bit more respectful.

I worked at Bombardier full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Nice people throughout the company, good salary and benefits

    Cons

President & CEO Alain Bellemare is always yelling, has created a place of fear and has complete disregard to his own spending even though company is financially stressed. Of all the CEOs I have worked for, doesn't spend much time at the office (leaves early or comes in late when he has no meetings). Not sure that would work for a regular employee. Toxic environment and very unprofessional. People have no work ethic (gossiping instead of working, no communication with co-workers, personal work during office hours, leaving early, etc). They offered me the position without testing my language and computer skills!

    Advice to Management

Time to roll up your sleeves and change the old culture. CEO's office should have a culture of collaboration and communication instead of creating a place of fear.

I have been working at Bombardier full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Working with clever people, easy to work with and eager to make great products.

    Cons

It's a big company that knows its great, in an environment where employees are easy to find (low salaries).

    Advice to Management

Seek opinions from working levels before engaging with consulting firms. The employees at working levels are ready to share all kind of useful information

    Pros

Flexible hours, autonomy and the change of direction in the company is extremely positive; bringing a more focused, analytical approach to everything they do.

    Cons

Sometimes suffer from being too big a company .The reaction time is slower than it needs to be.
HR is not your friend either.

    Advice to Management

Take care of the rockstars in the company.

I have been working at Bombardier full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Low stress environment
    Friendly people
    Flexible hours
    Many benefits

    Cons

    no confidence in management
    an ever-changing company direction
IT is not well-funded (as it's a manufacturing company)

    Advice to Management

Stop contracting with third-party consulting firms with astronomical rates when the same job can be done internally for pennies. For a company that is constantly in debt, stop relying on externals and give confidence to your established employee base.

    Pros

Very good work environment and ethic. People are friendly, more than average. Decent salary.

    Cons

Company's goals seems lost. Everything is good at the bottom but the upper management (directors, CEO, etc) seems to be lost and aren't sure where to go. Seems like the board of directors are a bunch of villagers coming to the city.
