I have been working at Bombardier Transportation full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

possibilities to work abroad. Great general will to improve. many opportunities to e volve within the company.

    Cons

Short term gains seems to be preferred over long shot core improvements. Workload per employee is very high. salaries aren't competitive. work environment is very traditional (in comparison with the new trend of more comprehensive work environment

    Advice to Management

Hire more young employees. offer competitive salaries and/or more attractive work environment

I have been working at Bombardier Transportation full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

--Decent guys with good senses of humor
    --Safety oriented (almost too much)
--Help is always a question away.
    --Union facility
--Individuals have the OPPORTUNITY to move up to new positions and make more money. Whether or not it actually happens depends how hard you push and pester for it.
--Can move to other BT facilities in the U.S.
--If you feel something is unsafe, say something and it's tagged out or changed right away.
--Management sometimes DOES take employee recommendations into account and implement them.

    Cons

--The path for which you get more money has WAY TOO MANY hoops to jump though. Scheduling training, getting a tech to sign off, changing shifts to do on job training for tasks you may very well never perform otherwise.
--There are folks that have no business holding a wrench and know little of mechanic work. Some shouldn't be working of the trains.
--Little is done to make the employee feel appreciated and thanked.
--The trains are old, they do NOT do well in cold or snow.
--The Port Authority of NY/NJ are TOUGH CUSTOMERS. They knit pick everything little thing and always want trains out in the system. How can we diagnose problems and fix them properly (so the problem doesn't happen tomorrow) if they're constantly down or throats??
--Pay could be slighter higher given the many many tasks and systems there are to learn and understand. It is not the "Industry Standard" as we are told.

    Advice to Management

Let us know we do a good job and are appropriated! Some of us actually do bust our butts and give a crap about our workmanship. Re-purpose other techs who aren't that strong in mechanical tasks and hire the right people for the right tasks

I worked at Bombardier Transportation (Less than a year)

    Pros

Lots of promises which is part of the Bombardier initiative, tell them what they want to hear and then do the exact opposite.

    Cons

None of those promises ever materialized. Dilutional management with their personal priorities as their focus, no commitment to team at all.

    Advice to Management

    Start engaging your employees

    Pros

The technology is really cool, and there are lot of good people to work with. It's pretty casual on Fridays, and plenty of place to eat locally.

    Cons

All travel is coach. It used to be business class. Senior management flies business, the HR policy state business, but RCS president enforces some hidden rules that workers fly coach.

Tech tools generally do not work. Frequent outages of requirements and CM tools. Most recently, laptops refused to connect to USB stick.

Very lean engineering staff with many people having too many jobs and failing at most of them. As turnover speed up, general feeling in the office is getting very tense. Many people work only 8 hours and must leave after.

    Many poor performing projects.

    Definitely a place to avoid.

    Advice to Management

Start to care for the morale. There are too many good peoples who are tired of how badly things work in every corner.

    Pros

They implement 9/80 policy and therefore you would have in total 5 days off for every two weeks. It gives you a bit of extra to relax.

    Cons

Lack of long term plan and quite tough going through the financial crisis right now

I can offer no reason to work here...

    Pros

Full time work if you want to work hard for little appreciation

    Cons

Everyone is trying to cover their jobs. Many have not had experience in the field in which they are working and fail to listen to people that know the job.

    Advice to Management

Stop posturing and try to listne to people that have experience.

I have been working at Bombardier Transportation (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Very great product. I would say after the rail cars are built testest and in service, they are the best!

    Cons

    Your nothing but a number
Management is nothing but a click of buddies.
If your not part of the click in management, they will get rid of any threat of exposing there inability to manage.
Production workers have no say anymore.
    HR is fully backing management
Workers want a union if they don't get rid of certain management.

    Advice to Management

Please corporate Management, stop going to Bombardier Plattsburgh and being walked throughout the plant guided by the crooked management. Please talk to the everyday workers... Plattsburgh BT is frustrated. We can't go to HR for help, and management is just telling everyone outside the walls everything is great. Also, people are being put into positions they are not qualified for, or made up with no postings. Please start over with the current management. You will be better off and the moral will skyrocket!
