I worked at Bon Appétit Management full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

If I had a problem that required management involvement, they were quick to listen and help. I never had a problem with any management there. They had some good benefits including health care & paid leave. Not the best job ever but overall I had a good time working there. The cooks seemed to have a lot of variety in the types of food they made and creativity was encouraged.

    Cons

My job was physically demanding, which I don't mind but it isn't for everybody. The hours weren't great - I think I worked until 7pm most days. There wasn't a lot of upward mobility, and a high turn over, especially in the lower paygrade. For my location in particular, after a while I didn't like working around the college students. There's a lot of weird upper class privilege that goes on at Reed.

    Advice to Management

It'd be nicer to have more flexibility changing positions, but other than that I didn't really notice anything.

    Pros

The restaurant I worked at was lucrative during the busy season. That's about where the pros end.

    Cons

Deplorable management. Managers are chosen based on personal ties and shamelessly choose favorite employees. They choose their friends for the employee of the month bonus, never based on merit. I could go on and on, but it's not worth the time since it's likely to never change.

    Advice to Management

Quit your jobs and hire replacements who know what they're doing and actually care about performing their jobs.

    Pros

    Greeting Students is the BEST!

    Cons

Management leaves workers on their own to figure things out; then tells them that's not how they want it.

    Advice to Management

Ask US what works/what doesn't at end of shift meetings instead of at a busy flip time.
