    Positive Outlook

I worked at Bon Secours Health full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Never have to worry about supplies, they really do want the best for the residents. Clean, patient centered care.

    Cons

Have been short staffed lately so you pull a lot of work, which can be a great thing if you want hours. Some residents have a long list of special accommodations and that can get to be a bit much, some people can be lazy and not want to work, like anywhere.

    Advice to Management

Train agency fill ins on standards and facility practices so that they know what to do, that way the staff aren't overwhelmed trying to do their work and the agency's work as well.

I worked at Bon Secours Health

    Pros

Great mission . Personable to patients. Nuns involved. Caring. Good customer service. Family atmosphere for employees. Small and intimate. Religious and inspirational. Motivating. Friendly

    Cons

Short staffed. No pay increases. Very gossipy. Poor equipment. Old facilities in need of repair. Decisions are made to eliminated jobs without thinking about staff left behind to do the work.

I worked at Bon Secours Health full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Nothing comes to mind. Not the best place for new nurses to start. Mean staff, short staffed, too much gossip

    Cons

Do not orient new staff long enough- as a new grad you get about 5 weeks training (some of these spent working as a Nursing assistant due to short staff) supposed to have 12 - Nurse patient ratio is ridiculous, dont get to spend hardly any time with each patient and provide proper care Staff are cruel to new nurses- get annoyed with questions, older nurses talk bad about you every time you turn around and treat you... like an idiot Not as patient focused as I thought- used to be that everyone I asked had something good to say about an experience at st francis...nowadays hear only negative things Short staffed- constantly having to work as nursing assistant d/t shortages- staff also call in sick regularly whenever they want its like if you dont feel like working one day, just call in sick no biggie

    Advice to Management

Train your employees! Environment needs to be more supportive for new nurses and talk to your older nurses about openly speaking negatively about new employees...it DOES get back to them

I worked at Bon Secours Health full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Learned a lot of over the years. In the beginning it was a good place to work, it felt like being part of a family. Made many good friends. Great teamwork in some departments.

    Cons

Short staffed everyday 2-3 people, every shift. Lots of unexperienced nurses being hired and not properly trained. Management focuses on everything but patient care. Patient satisfaction is talked about all the time however most EVERY department works short, housekeeping, nursing (for sure), kitchen staff. You cannot provide adequate patient care without the people to do it.

    Advice to Management

Be consistent. Do not base promotions, raises off of who your friends are. If you are going to be in a position of management telling others how to do their job then most likely you should know how to do their job. For example, if you are the director of a unit then you should have previously worked in the same type of unit. When you treat your staff like they matter and that you care then they will go above and... beyond to help you. Hire some staff, some experienced staff. No one wants to go to the hospital when they are sick and be taken care of by a brand new nurse especially if that nurse sits at the desk with ear buds in watching movies and tv shows. Get back to the roots of what Bon Secours use to be. For the upper management writing checks for (1/2 million- 1 million) for equipment that is never used- GET RID OF THEM, they are wasting your money. Hire someone who has a clue as to what they are doing not someone that can talk a good game, they need to be able to walk it too.

I worked at Bon Secours Health

    Pros

The employees make you feel like you are a family. You will gain a lot of experience working there from seeing the different variety of people you will care for. They offer tuition reimbursement for employees who are going to school as long as the classes are work related.

    Cons

They are always busy and always short staffed. They usually staff with agency staff a lot. Some agency nurses are better than others.

    Advice to Management

Communicate better with the employees. Maybe take some time to see what the needs of the employees really are. Have employee appreciation for all employees . Make everyone feel equal.

I have been working at Bon Secours Health

    Pros

Good pay, friendly staff, fast pace, cross training. Great opportunity to grow in a welcoming environment. Managers are serious but completely easy to speak with.

    Cons

Sometimes the patients can be a bit overwhelming but that is a select few. Short staffed quite a bit which means they are constantly hiring and training new employees.
