I have been working at Bon-Ton Stores part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great coworkers! One of the main reason I have stayed is because of the great store managers and coworkers.

    Cons

The pay is what you get for retail and customers can be easily upset with coupons.

    Advice to Management

Hire management positions from within! Don't bring someone new when you have current employees that would be great for the job.

I worked at Bon-Ton Stores full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Associates are GREAT! Everyone comes to work happy and ready to interact with and help customers. Also the associates are ready to help each other.

    Cons

They are pushing credit way to hard. They say customers first but everyone is called out for credit. They actually have boards with everyone's name and who is getting a charge and who isn't.

    Advice to Management

Stop being so pushy. Go back to how it was where the most important thing was the customers. No one was held accountable for credit and people came because it was all about them. Stop making it about credit yes it's important but the company grew and flourished because we asked but didn't push we just made the customers our friends not a dollar sign.

I have been working at Bon-Ton Stores part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Average retail store job , but gratifying if you like customer service, great coworkers, flexible schedule

    Cons

Hire way too many people, 95% part timers, never get enough hours, management does not care, sometimes only getting 8 hours a week. It's a joke. just the bottom line constant pressure to open charges. Not,a career job no/minimal room for advancement if that. Don't work there if you are looking to make money or be valued

    Advice to Management

Start caring about your workers. Used to absolutely love working here, used to be my favorite job. Everyone quits! Look closer at your rude and disrespectful female store manager

    Pros

Amazing co-workers, customers are mostly kind, learn about the "retail world".
Helps increase my patience. Meet people of all kinds.

    Cons

Discrimination because of religion. Some customers are really disrespectful.

    Advice to Management

If there is an issue, address it before it's too late.
Don't backbite and gossip just because.
Don't discriminate because of my faith but because of my work ethic.

    Pros

    local, clean, great customer base

    Cons

    Stop fighting your own coupons!

    Advice to Management

Cheer up. Do not fear! Thanks for letting me go to Church on Sunday. Have a place for people to sit and relax right at the check out line. Don't rush customers. Enjoy the shopping with your customers. Have a annual Tea, Talk up going out shopping. Learn your customers' names. Cool it with the urgency and rushing. Close on Sunday's. Schedule normal routine hours for associates. Try really hard not to hurt your work forces feelings. or your customers. Dust and keep the fitting rooms up. Put the merchandise on the floor right away, and don't hide it in the back. Presume innocence of your work force and your customer base. My hands are sore from security tags removal. Wear fashion clothing and stop having the girls look like they are mourning.Do a flee market with clearance on a regular basis. Invite different clubs to come, and put out light snacks. Cut your sales promotions in half, and cut the number of sale changes in half. Pay your associates more--they are the guardians of the till. Teach soft skills and use them on each other. Learn to really sell well. Get the men's business. Debit cards are cash. Don't fight sales with in house customers. I can't tell you how many times I tried to buy something, but I was stalled or not allowed to for some fussy reason. Provide a fund raiser to actually wrap gifts and bring them to our local nursing homes. Get involved with our local programs at the Labor Department to enhance employee dress. Get to Church dinners in the community. Spring clean! Wipe the counters as soon as someone sneezes. Stay well and farewell!
