    Family Operation

    Pros

Not only is the company family owned and operated, but the team members are treated like family. Yes, there are vacation and sick leave limitations, but the company is willing to work with you to keep you employed and able to deal with your personal difficulties.

    Cons

Healthcare coverage options changed nearly yearly, so it can be challenging for those with chronic conditions or costs.

    Cons

Management has no communication whatsoever. Things will be done in stupid fashion, sometimes to be redone.

I wouldn't recommend this company to my worst enemy

    Pros

There are some very nice people there. BI offers vacation and sick time, not just combo 'PTO'.

    Cons

Employees are a company's greatest assets but BI treats employees like commodities. The owners believe that only 'key' employees (family members and top management) need to get raises every year. The rest of the staff goes years without so much as a cost of living adjustment, much less a merit increase. The salaried Print CSRs who manage the day-to-day relationships with clients that literally keep the company afloat are expected to work unpaid overtime nights and weekends with no pay increase, year after year. The company takes seasoned veterans completely for granted and hires new employees with no experience for higher rates of pay. BI routinely makes verbal promises to new hires in interviews that they break once someone comes on board (e.g. raise in 90 days, hourly to salary in 90 days, etc.). In cases of abusive managers, as long as he/she is making the deliverables, management looks the other way and HR is a joke (another family member). There are no opportunities for advancement. BI does not do performance reviews and the only feedback employees get is negative. The atmosphere is totally demoralizing and, combined with the workload they’re carrying, people can’t stand to come into work every day.

    Good Company

    Pros

Staffed by an intelligent group of people from a diverse range of backgrounds, this company is steadily growing. The past few years have seen significant growth even if it has been a little rough. The overall company is very positive and operates in a professional manner.

    Cons

This company does publishing and shipping, and has it's own internal print shop. Their print shop area is still relatively young and suffering significant growing pains. There is improvement happening but is happening very slowly.

The bad side of being family owned..

    Pros

9 to 5 week day job. Major holidays off.

    Cons

Favoritism is rampant with wholly inappropriate employer behavior bordering on harassment. Incompetent and unresponsive front office management. Bounced live paychecks. Overtime pay is always miscalculated. Discriminatory. Repeated federal safety violations. Incompetent executive manager in warehouse. Problem employees are kept. I'll favored employees are forced by pressure to quit. Rampant drug use. Outright racism. Reviews and raises are rare for front. Reviews are overlooked in warehouse with raises capped at 50 cents an hour. Hostile work environment due to poorly trained management and little accountability.
