    Pros

Customers were nice. Got paid on time. Wasn't physically abused.

    Cons

Egotistical trainers, who are more interested in going to hotels for meetings than actually training people.
Pressure to sell is impossible to correlate with integrity

    Advice to Management

Examine where your training budget is being spent.

I worked at Boots Opticians full-time

    Pros

I was lucky to have a good team and good management which was probably the best bit about the job

    Cons

Often having to deal with complaints and problems from other parts of the company such as the CLRS
Customers some of the rudest and worst I've ever worked with.

    Pros

Good discount on glasses and okay staff discount

    Cons

Dysfunctional organisation under pretty much non-existent management. Managers turning blind eyes to what's going on within the team. Staff members' complaints and pleas falling on deaf ears.

    Advice to Management

    Take action

I have been working at Boots Opticians full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Opportunities for progression. Customers trust the name and the company still is health focused.

    Cons

Upper management is completely disconnected from what is going on with their staff or from the running of the day-to-day tasks within a store which makes work difficult.

    Advice to Management

Management should go back to basics and have trust that staff they employ are actually good at what they do. Rewarding loyalty would help with employee retention!

    Pros

Discount and free sight tests. New regional manager who Is hands on and great.

    Cons

Bad teamwork, lazy staff. If management was better thus would be resolved. Management abusive and nothing ever done about it on feedback. Staff that have been there the longest tend to leave all the work to new people.

    Advice to Management

Please take notice of staff feedback when over 70% of the team leave bad feed back or the feedback questionnaire is pointless. Regional should talk to staff about issues in confidence.

I have been working at Boots Opticians full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The basics are done well, clear pay structure and bonus for all staff, development opportunity's are there if you aim for them and show your qualities. Training for staff is clear and structured. A huge benefit is the company pension scheme, it's excellent and shows in my opinion a degree of class that is highlighted by company's infrastructure.

Having worked for other large optical multiples over 15 years I can honestly say my time with Boots Opticians so far has been a rewarding experience. There consistency of approach with there people is the real highlight of my time so far. As a Manager yes the buck stops and starts with you but that's Management, you have the autonomy to build and develop your own team and aim to deliver business objectives set by company and for the Boots brand whist leading customer healthcare as a focus at all times.

A very pleasant alternative in comparison to the model set by other optical multiples who's focus is generally led by profit sharing with partnership creating in my opinion an inconsistent message and poor environment for employees that varies hugely from practice to practice depending on owners personal motivation.

    Cons

Where the company needs to improve is investing in its Optometry Personnel. There seems to be a "fear" of making the commitment of taking the established optometrists out of their test room environment and developing them into people leaders of there top stores. There is a huge wealth of knowledge contained within these personnel with all the skills already there to be developed further with ease but for some reason nobody ever seems to act on it properly. Instead the general approach tends to be to invest in external retail based candidates or pharmacy colleague's to lead and manage the practice's. All that really does is create a lack of empathy and understanding between colleagues. " it's easier to teach an optometrist retail than a retailer optometry "

There is a real opportunity to invest in optometrists career journey in this company and differentiate themselves from there competitors as employer of choice. They are already beating others with pay structure and clinical environment, if they nail this they will be onto something special.

P.s. I am not an optometrist

    Advice to Management

As i mentioned above, develop from within the boots opticians infrastructure. Think of the message you could send.
Your already on to something but as they say sometimes "you can't see the wood for the trees!"

    Pros

Friendly workstaff. Knowledge gained in optics and good starting point for future opticians and DO's

    Cons

Terrible management, lack of empathy and concern for workers, all about pushing sales, and lack of organisation leading to high stress work environment. hard to get any holiday time off, have to put holiday time in months and months in advanced or you can forget about getting any time off whatsoever. if you have an emergency, or need a day off and havent put it in extremely far in advanced, no chance.

    Advice to Management

start caring about your employees. sales are important but if you dont have a decently cared for work force, then no one will perform.

    Pros

Great experience, training and personal development opportunities. Care for colleagues and customers is priority

    Cons

Nothing obvious, sometimes messages could be landed better.

    Advice to Management

Decide on something and stick to it. Run with it, see how it goes. Review it then make subtle improvements.
