They treated us like we were disposable
Jun 11, 2020 - Beauty Specialist in Milton Keynes, EnglandRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
The pay was good for someone my age (£10 per hour) and we also got free makeup
Cons
We were treated badly and the hours were very long
- Current Employee, more than 1 year★★★★★
Pros
- managers don't watch over every move you make, we are allowed and encouraged to make our own independent decisions when appropriate - good amount of holiday hours - fair system when it comes to working bank holidays/holidays like boxing day - same rate of pay regardless of age (but is dependent on whether you have worked for them for more than 6 months)
Cons
- after the Christmas period the temporary staff disappear quite quickly but the demand from customers doesn't really slow down until mid January, so it can sometimes be difficult to manage customer demand - overtime is not available for a while after Christmas until the new tax year which, for part time workers like me who have some time they can spare, is a bit annoying.
- Current Employee★★★★★
Pros
Staff receive a very fair pay and are 100% supported by managent with any decisions they make requiring customers. Friendly/family work environment.
Cons
As a part time student I also go to sixthform, however a lot of my attention is currently at boots as they always 'need' me. customers are gross.

Pros
The is better pay than most similar places and there is a good range of interesting products that makes the job interesting. The staff discount is also very good!
Cons
You need to work long days and you are not allowed to sit down which can be hard. We are also not allowed to talk with colleagues even when the store is not busy. It can be very tiring. The company also has some policies that are a bit questionable.

Pros
Lots of chances to get overtime. The pay is reletively good in comparison to other customer assistant roles in other companies. Free uniform and discount after 3 months. In larger stores there is lots of room to move up in different areas quickly. Your co-workers are lovely people who will support you and work as a team (a sense of family) Vending machines / tv in staff room Diversity of co-workers
Cons
1) management treat you like you are their property 2) you can be fired for no real reason especially on probation period 3) you could be subject to racist/sexist 'jokes' 4) the stores are often understaffed so you will feel overly stretched 5) you have no voice, no rights you are just a worker 6) overtime may be forced on to you 7) you cannot talk to co-workers or sit down which is monitored on CCTV

Perfect for me!
Oct 28, 2017 - Customer Assistant in Grantham, EnglandRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Hourly pay rate is great as it’s the same for all ages (I’m 17 and get paid £8 an hour -in live in Lincolnshire) Customer Assistant job is so easy, no intense or hard work. You meet a wide range of people everyday so you never get bored. Discount is crazy amazing, especially when you use your points on your boots card. The group of ladies I work with are lovely. Everyone knows Boots so it looks good working for them!
Cons
Some customers don’t understand when you cannot do something for them, but that’s a small amount of customers and you’ll get that anywhere you work. I’ve only been employed in my small store for a couple weeks and the training is rubbish, I was on the tills by myself on the first day and was told to ring the bell if I was stuck; the training isn’t great. However I didn’t mind this as I’m a quick learner and love a challenge; you get used to it really quickly and pick up on things quickly with practice. Discount card can take a while to come sometimes (my friend got hers within her first month but I’ve been told I will get it after probation period (12 weeks) also uniform can take a while to come.

Thank you very much for taking the time to leave your feedback. It's great that you're happy with the pay and discount. It's also lovely that you get on with all your colleagues! Thanks for letting us know about your training, we want people to feel they're supported to be the best they can be so it's very important you get good training. This will be passed on to the relevant teams.

Started great, ended not so great
Jul 24, 2019 - Customer Assistant in Kew, EnglandRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
The atmosphere at the company when I started was good. Management were friendly, happy to help with any problems or queries. Starting pay (I was a christmas temp) was good for a retail job and it increased over the years.
Cons
The work became more and more stretched over a thin operations team. Company Bonus, Christmas bonus and time off to do Christmas shopping were removed to put into base pay, in the end didn't make much different. The specific store I worked at was the "Big shop training store" for managers transitioning from a smaller store to a bigger one, therefore our store manager changed every 1 - 1.5 years which would cause method of working to be changed often.

Pros
Flexible and good pay Nice team Easy location
Cons
Not guaranteed hours Only part time

Pros
Hours were good and working independently was perfect for me. But you must be self motivated and willing to work hard to reach monthly goals. This was not difficult for me but for others it may not be the ideal job. Pay was ok but compensation was great as long as you reached goal at the end of the month. Schools were good and informative.
Cons
Communication was lacking from managers. Stock was slow to come in most of the time.
