I have been working at Booz & Company full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

-Great brand name to have on resume
-Good experience and exposure, if you can network to the right projects
-Solid mentorship, if you can find the right people to look out for you

    Cons

-Requires knowing the right people: promotions not based on merit and project staffing is not based on skill set
-Staff consistently treated as a resource: little focus on developing talent, high burn out rate from being overwork, and often treated as less than humans, with a very passive aggressive and acidic culture
-Extremely cyclical business cycles: the lows are extremely low with more than 50% of staff on the beach. this resulted in a significant chunk of my starting class fired at 6 months into the job.

    Advice to Management

-If you want to hire and retain talent, treat your people well

I worked at Booz & Company full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Everyone you work with at the ground level is smart; some of the principals are too.
    Benefits are pretty incredible.
Overall, you are treated with respect.

    Cons

Muddled strategy leads to messy project management.
New strategy doesn't have much buy-in from partners or junior staff.
Firm services perennially gets the shaft from client staff and management.

    Advice to Management

Work out the infighting between global regional leadership. It's embarrassing to see otherwise capable and brilliant people acting like bratty children!

    Pros

    - strong and visionary senior leadership team
    - opportunity to work on challenging and high impact client problems
    - down to earth staff with "roll up sleeves" style
    - practice structure allows those who want to specialize an opportunity to work in area of interest
    - good work-life programs (eg, sabbaticals, diversity networks)
    - fair compensation

    Cons

    - Passive aggressive culture with limited direct feedback
    - Virtually no formal training, and apprenticeship / on-the-job training breaks down at higher levels
    - recent short term local decisions call into question what the firm values
    - limited administrative support and general resources and poor knowledge mgmt mean that staff carry a burden that further reduces work / life balance

    Advice to Management

Put clients and people first and everything else will fall into place. Raise the bar for expectations of partners regarding team leadership and apprenticeship.

    Pros

Primary pros associated with working for Booz & Company include compensation, and the ability to work alongside intelligent, driven people.

    Cons

Despite verbal statements to the contrary, complete de facto disregard for employee preferences in the staffing process.
Lack of consistency among middle and senior management with regard to teams' work life balance management.

    Advice to Management

Management should focus on building credibility with staff by practicing what they preach in terms of staffing and work life balance.
