    Pros

    An great place filled with truly dynamic people, Booz is a great place to launch or accelerate a career, or make a long-term home for those interested in career consulting. As someone who has worked at multiple consulting firms the key advantages are: -A dynamic entrepreneurial environment; unlike the rest of MB3 consultants at Booz are free to work across many clients and launch their own products and offerings. Regardless of level, if you can think up a great project and a client wants to buy it you are free to do so. -A truly diverse environment; the company is filled not only with top tier MBAs, but PHDs, industry experts, and top consultants from various backgrounds and all parts of the world -Embracing the future: The company's new strategy is replacing the Monday-Thursday paradigm with a more flexible, and impactful travel model. We go onsite and meet with our clients where and when it makes sense, not just because its the thing to do.

    Cons

    While more flexible than other places the hours are still long and the work is still challenging, and management consulting is not everyone's cup of tea. While the overall firm is leading the way with a new work model, change takes time and as team member you have to be cognizant of the style of people around you. The hub offices offer great experiences for employees (e.g., New York, San Fran, Chicago, etc.), but some partners still insist on maintaining and attempting to recruit to offices off the beaten path (e.g., Cleveland) and need to come to terms with the reality of where high value consultants want to work and live in the new economy.

    Pros

    Demanding, challenging work--full of the entrepreneurial zeal of a start-up. Booz & Co split off from Booz Allen and Hamilton in the summer of 2008, with all the commercial business on the Booz & Co. side. Consequently, you get (1) a larger general management consulting firm with nearly a century of history and tradition but also (2) an aggressive new firm eager to build on its considerable reputation and establish itself anew without the anchor of its old, and rather hidebound, government business. It's a pretty neat combination, and the result so far is a place with just incredible energy.

    Cons

    The firm is finding its feet in terms of processes, etc., so systems don't run s smoothly as they might. It's not always clear who has the right to make what decision--and while this is true of many partnerships, it seems excessively so at Booz, perhaps because the firm is still restablishing itself. Long hours--typical of consulting. Some issues with scale--as the 4th largest of the general management consulting firms, Booz is subscale in some markets and industries Be prepared for a culture where people are frank, even brusque with criticism, but it is almost always as constructive as it is harsh.

    It ain't perfect, but what is?

    Pros

    great clients, high impact, great teammates. It's everything high-end strategy consulting should be. Booz is one of the top-4 consultancies in the world (well, #4 of 4) and its weight carries from a career perspective. Clients recognize and respect our brand, and headhunters call me regularly because of the Booz & Company brand. To me, that brand is an enabler to help me maximize my impact and career trajectory.

    Cons

    Not a process-driven culture. For example, Knowledge Management is widely seen as a mess, and most people use phone or email to track down expertise, rather than some centrally managed systems. There's also a sense that senior management is hiding things from mid-level staff. The firm's strategic plan, for example, is not shared beyond the partners. How can a firm execute on a plan if its people don't know what the plan is? examples is a recent round of layoffs were done in a very poor manner, and not communicated to staff. Everyone figured out what was going on, but there was only silence from management.

    Booz & Company is a global consulting firm that advises businesses, government ministries (outside the U.S.), and institutions around the world on issues of strategy, organization, operations, transformation and information technology. It holds expertise in a vast range of industries, including aerospace, automotive, chemicals, consumer, energy and utilities, financial services, health, industrials, media and entertainment, oil and gas, retail, transportation and others. Ninety years of consulting results in impressive milestones. Currently the oldest management consulting firm still in business, we have had a hand in the creation of the contract system for Hollywood movies, overseen the merger of the NFL and AFL, and steered the Chrysler Corporation out of bankruptcy. We pioneered the concepts of human capital, product life cycle and supply chain management, all mainstays of business and consulting today. And at the most fundamental level, we originated the term “management consultant”. Our focus on strategy consulting has persisted since 1914, when founder Edwin Booz first began advising clients to help them maintain a competitive advantage.

    Too low profile at times. Need to improve on bland recognition and improve exit opportunities for current consultants.

    Pros

    Namebrand management consulting firms are one of the top reasons to go to business school. You immediately start making good money (even more if you intern and accept a tuition reimbursement), and reset your resume to a higher standard. You can get a lot of experience in a short period of time, and certainly many desirable business and management careers list experience in investment banking or strategy consulting as one of the primary criteria.

    Cons

    Top consulting firms often attract the gunners you didn't enjoy sitting next to in business school. Often times the least liked managers (i.e., the worst to work for) were exactly the ones who were promoted up the chain. Poor leadership and middle management made an already challenging work-life environment that much worse. Good talent was often disgruntled, and everyone was searching for the next job on the side. Unfortunately, the promise of " you can do anything from consulting" is not entirely accurate, and the firm's ability and willingness to help place staff on their way out is nearly non-existent.

    Pros

    - Top tier talent; seriously, some of the smartest people you can ever hope to work with all in one place! - Very cool projects: Booz is less focused on mega-transformation projects than McKinsey. Smaller firm means smaller, sexier strategy projects are still able to make a dent in the P&L - Great brand: globally #4 and in fact #1 throughout the entire ME region.

    Cons

    - Probably fewer slide production/graphic design resources than some of our bigger competitors - Less scale means less expertise. While it is very cool in some ways to be on the first team to tackle a particular business problem at Booz, it can create a lot of work since our solution is entirely new. McKinsey and BCG for instance, being bigger, have more resources for more types of problems, so there is less reinventing the wheel and therefore better WLB in some cases.

    Pros

    The name makes a great impact on your resume no doubt, and the clients they work with are pretty much top notch. Project quality is a mix of "secy" and boring, but that can be expected at any consulting company. The performance review process is quite good since they take feedback from everyone in the project team, so one person alone doesn't influence your rating

    Cons

    You are pretty much on your own here. You have to learn and develop quickly, without much support. If you cannot understand how to create a deck or do an analysis, you cannot expect much help. Also the firm culture is such that they dont really invest in you much. If you do well, good for you. Else you're out. I know for sure that this is not the case at other top 3 consulting companies. Also, you have to go out of your way to get projects - have to network the heck out so people know you. Project staffing is done only by principals and to some extent by SA's (engagement managers) who always go for their favorites. So even if you have experience, or want to work on a project you will not be given a chance. Also, no one will support you if you need it - either in performance review, or any such.
