    Pros

Good pay, great experience, can move up the ranks quickly.

    Cons

Company was consumed by PWC so I left. Not sure if there is still the same culture sitting within a larger company like that.

Company deep seeded in business history

    Pros

Booz & Company is a global consulting firm that advises businesses, government ministries (outside the U.S.), and institutions around the world on issues of strategy, organization, operations, transformation and information technology. It holds expertise in a vast range of industries, including aerospace, automotive, chemicals, consumer, energy and utilities, financial services, health, industrials, media and entertainment, oil and gas, retail, transportation and others. Ninety years of consulting results in impressive milestones. Currently the oldest management consulting firm still in business, we have had a hand in the creation of the contract system for Hollywood movies, overseen the merger of the NFL and AFL, and steered the Chrysler Corporation out of bankruptcy. We pioneered the concepts of human capital, product life cycle and supply chain management, all mainstays of business and consulting today. And at the most fundamental level, we originated the term “management consultant”. Our focus on strategy consulting has persisted since 1914, when founder Edwin Booz first began advising clients to help them maintain a competitive advantage.

    Cons

Too low profile at times. Need to improve on bland recognition and improve exit opportunities for current consultants.

    Pros

The company had an exciting array of project that you could get on to if you had good relationships with the Principals.

    Cons

There were no major cons. I know work life balance was raised as an issue. I expect that going in to consulting, employees knew what was requested of them.

Oldest Management Consultancy - with room for improvement"

Oct 2, 2012 - Senior Consultant in Munich, Bavaria

    Business Outlook

    Pros

    - High-degree of freedom due to the absence of processes - Flat hierarchy and high approachability of partners - Very international network of employees and offices - Some of the largest clients worldwide - results driven approach - no "face-time" culture - Lots of social activities e.g. dinners, sports - Good travel policy - allowing private use of budget - Good IT policy - not restrictive at all

    Cons

    - Brand recognition in Europe is sub-standard for a Tier 1 - "black-box" staffing model - little say in where you get staffed - international opportunities come randomly - very long-term engagements with little staff rotation (sometimes several years) - too operational at times (where is premiumization?) - corporate culture bit depressed at times - where is the pride of being at THE oldest firm?

    Trying to turn itself around

    Feb 2, 2011 - Senior Consultant

    Business Outlook

    Pros

    - In the right pockets, competes with the very best management consulting firms (energy, health come to mind, but highly region-dependent) - Entrepreneurial, if you are adept at cutting through red tape or getting what you want - Senior leaders looking for ideas from junior ranks for "how to make it better" - Trying to take our own medicine - global brand; even if brand still lags mckinsey, bcg, in some regions this is not a huge drop, and in some industries, not a drop at all - willingness and eagerness to improve culture, work-life balance, etc

    Cons

    - lots of legacy problems from "old days" of BAH and/or partners and internal staff set in their ways - questionably competent senior/internal leadership decision-making in some regions - brand in the "real world" is variable; sometimes as strong as anyone, other times "Ops/analyst wonk" bias - discombobulated strategy; still trying to find its way in terms of market-facing and internal investment, focus after the BAH spin-off - At junior level (e.g. below principal/partner), globality of firm is hardly tangible, not a mobile place - Culture inconsistent, with some champions of change and others who just want to punch a card and make their money, "stop whining and get to work" - culture of feedback highly inconsistent; "direct, honest feedback" is rare, you either get negative feedback indirectly and without details, or you get sugar coated nonsense because many people don't know how to deliver constructive criticism and/or are afraid to do it to your face, which is silly

Good company, choose practice wisely, great ready for travel

    Aug 28, 2012 - Senior Consultant
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

Interesting client base. Flexible working arrangements withing the 4-day a week travel lifestyle. Quick ascension up the ladder, especially for those right out of school.

    Cons

Travel wears down on people, especially those with families. Practice alignment makes the company feel very small very quickly.
