Booz Allen Hamilton

Any tips on dealing with a manager who never respond to emails or meeting invites ? For some context, at Booz Allen, everyone is assigned a "career manager". They are responsible for helping you to build a network, find new opportunities, and answer admin related questions. My current career manager does not respond at all.

    Pros

Perfect environment with a lot of consultants mentoring and helping out. Everyone strives for the best quality of work. I was always engaged in other projects and our managers were very helpful in anything we did

    Cons

Very long working hours, I mean from 10 am till 2 am non-stop. Contractors get much less in terms of salary and compensation than full-timers although they do somehow the same job.

Fantastic ride so far. Sad to see legacy get swallowed by PwC

Feb 4, 2014 - Senior Associate in Dubai
    Recommend

    Business Outlook

    Pros

    - Smart people - Best compensation in industry - Interesting work - Insanely high standards

    Cons

    - Too Lebanese- and Beirut-centric - Very few role models at senior level - Some seniors are too tight (as they are related). Serious conflicts of interest. Need to break those that want to run this place like a family business

No work life balance, senior mgmt doesn't care about employees

    May 31, 2014 - Associate
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

-Good compensation and benefits (until the PwC merger is complete at least) That is the only thing I can think of to write here, so if this is the only thing that is important to you then this is the place for you

    Cons

-Little respect for work-life balance -Senior management does not care about lower level employees -Senior associates and Principals have very little people development or management skills - working in teams can be very difficult as seniors do not know how to manage or develop lower level employees -Very little training curriculum -Competitive work culture - people take themselves way too seriously -Work is not all strategy as they say it is - there is quite a bit of PMO and tactical cost reduction work

    Talented, smart people

    Business Outlook

    Pros

Interesting clients and projects. Smart project team members. Challenging in a good way. Is a great way to set up long term career in terms of compensation and interesting job opportunities.

    Cons

Work / life balance is very challenging. As much as seniors want to put programs in place to better this, it remains challenging. The projects are demanding and require more than standard industry hours.

Mixed. Good name, can be interesting work, no work/life balance

    Pros

Brand still has good value if looking to move to industry. Interesting opportunities. Constantly stretched professionally. This is a place where you can make a name for yourself.

    Cons

Very little work/life balance, but this is to be expected given our industry. Compensation is too low given other options.
