Challenging and strategic work but intense hours
Sep 30, 2009 -RecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Absolutely some of the smartest people you will ever work with. The client challenges are incredibly complex and intellectually stimulating, and the work can be quite fun if you get a good mix on your team.
Cons
Work life balance is quite a challenge. Late night and weekend work is often expected, and little is being done to manage it.

Fascinating projects with brilliant colleagues
Jan 27, 2013 - Consultant in New York, NYRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
- Top tier talent; seriously, some of the smartest people you can ever hope to work with all in one place! - Very cool projects: Booz is less focused on mega-transformation projects than McKinsey. Smaller firm means smaller, sexier strategy projects are still able to make a dent in the P&L - Great brand: globally #4 and in fact #1 throughout the entire ME region.
Cons
- Probably fewer slide production/graphic design resources than some of our bigger competitors - Less scale means less expertise. While it is very cool in some ways to be on the first team to tackle a particular business problem at Booz, it can create a lot of work since our solution is entirely new. McKinsey and BCG for instance, being bigger, have more resources for more types of problems, so there is less reinventing the wheel and therefore better WLB in some cases.

Pros
Opportunity to work with some of the smartest people
Cons
Culture is not well integrated across teams

Pros
You will..... Work with some of the smartest people you've ever met Help companies solve the most challenging business problems their facing Make lifelong relationships with colleagues and clients Gain exposure to many different industries
Cons
Consulting can be perceived as a sexy job, working with Executives, travelling to fun places, solving the worlds problems. But it's a very competitive industry and the demands are extremely high. The hours are long, the travel is frequent (and not always to fun places). There was less collaboration than I expected. Mostly you sit with your colleagues in a conference room with headphones in all working on your own piece of a project. I also found the culture managed talent with a glass half empty approach. It was never about what you did well and how to improve, it was always what was wrong with your work.

Challenging work Be part of the forefronts of change in the industry Learn from the smartest people in the field Entreprenurial mindset Great compensation
Cons
Work life balance.. comes with the territory
- Former Employee★★★★★
Pros
The people I met at Booz were the smartest I've ever worked with, from the lowliest consultant to senior partners. Sure, there was some arrogance, but these people really are that smart.
Cons
Long hours. Endless approval cycles. The partners really are kings and some act that way, though others are great. Sometimes they overengineer their internal processes.
