A great place for software engineers (at least in the R&D department)

    Pros

Great co-workers in fantastic teams. Compensation is competitive (read very good) and benefits are mediocre, but getting there slowly (in the past few months they've added more benefits and pluses). Management in the R&D department is very straightforward and highly transparent about plans and specs. The entire R&D department is broken up into teams with very fun names (chosen by the team members). Each team consists of a lead engineer, a QA engineer and 2 or 3 software engineers. Promotions are done on a yearly basis: you set goals at the beginning of the year and at the end of the year, you meet with your manager to discuss whether you've met those goals or not. After that, you are possibly granted raises, bonuses, etc. Overall, everyone is very friendly. There's a kitchen on each floor, and leadership is very friendly (to the point where upper management knows most employees on a first name basis).

    Cons

The company feels a bit top heavy at times.

Good Company with great potential...with some tweaks.

    Pros

Company is growing and has a bright future. You are surrounded by high performing people who serve as unofficial mentors. Mike is a driven CEO who has a definite vision and this makes you want to work hard to achieve it.

    Cons

Common thread is that what is in the job description is not what the actual job is. Quite a bit of your daily tasks fall under "Under duties as assigned." The work/life balance is off. The lack of non-management personnel puts the full weight on the faithful few so you can never really detach from work. The org chart looks like a lollipop. There are way too many Directors, VPs, SVPs and EVP. The only people who benefit from this are the people leaving the company. This sets them up for higher pay and position but they are not prepared for the new roles.

    Management Could Use Training

    Pros

When I first started at Borderfree previously known as FiftyOne, it was a great experience. There were a lot of great people and the company was growing very fast. Over time the company has seen great success with their clientele.

    Cons

There was a high turn over rate. I think this reflects the overall dissatisfaction that a lot of people felt at the company. I think that the people working for the company for years, who helped build it, were never really valued very highly. There wasn't a lot of assistance from HR. In my time there, I think the HR department, party of 2 tops, saw about 4 different changing of guards. This is within the course of less than 3 years. Whenever I had an issue, and I tried to address it, there really wasn't anyone to help. In addition, there was a lot of hiring from outside the organization, instead of internal training and promotion from within.

    Gone are the better days

    Pros

Borderfree in it's former glory days was a great company to work for under the leadership of the CEO at the time. Now it is a different story...

    Cons

Gone are the days that made Borderfree the place and enjoyable culture it once was. There used to be drinks and Karaoke nights after every town hall meeting, and monthly birthday treat of the month, and other small but fun events. These are all gone now under PB management. Even our christmas holiday party was pushed to the new year..it's like it was an after thought for the Borderfree side of the business. They don't appreciate the talented employees that made Borderfree a success and as a result people are leaving at a rate never seen before here. It's really sad to see a great company going down this rabbit hole. Borderfree was doing well before this takeover. Now we are evaluated based on the poor performance as a whole and our annual raises took a big hit.

A solely profit driven company, employees are an after thought. Still more growing pains, but it's time to grow up.

    Pros

Casual dress, a few bright employees. It uses the latest technologies to help drive the company.

    Cons

There is no work life balance: Some depts are 'required' to work 24/7 or near it w/o shifts (with very little or no compensation). If you're not asked to work 24/7 (answer emails or take calls, after hours, weekends etc.) you maybe expected to. No personal growth/career development: Their idea of career development is to take time out your busy work day and learn something new on your own, or learn on your own time after you've answered emails. Turnover is high. There is no mentorship, and managers can be bullies. There is no real team camaraderie, just a group of people doing their best to keep their jobs.

    Time to leave was Yesterday

    Pros

There were so many pros during the Borderfree era but since PB has taken over they have all faded. There are really no pros to this company anymore than you collecting a paycheck and working short PB hours. No one is motivated to do much so kick the email chain around and everyone can clap once an announcement comes out.

    Cons

    - Attrition rate is over 50% and will continue to grow, PB has decided to destroy the Borderfree. culture that they paid a premium to buy - Best and brightest are leaving in waves leaving just the fat - Employee moral is at an all time low in the past 3 year - Merit increase are around 2 % for a above average performance review

    Exciting company experiencing growing pains

    Pros

Exciting company with a work environment that offers challenges and opportunities. Caliber of most co-workers is top notch. Decent work-life balance across most job functions. Making strides to create a culture more responsive to employee career development.

    Cons

Lacking inspirational leadership. Executive team communicates poorly with the company, which leads to poor communication between business units. Goals of business units not well aligned with an overall goal.
