    I worked at Borders full-time

    Pros

Central location and beautiful building on Charing Cross Road.

    Cons

Not very much pay and now the company is gone: this is a shame.

    I worked at Borders part-time

    Pros

Ability to interact with customers who are enthusiastic about literature. Great management and room for advancement as well as adequate wage increases.

    Cons

The company started closing locations before closing entirely which was very disheartening for those who had committed themselves to their positions.

    Advice to Management

Very little advice to give. Management was always very helpful and attentive to the needs of the customers and employees. I'm sure that it was very difficult to compete with other companies in the same industry and it seems rather unfair for me to critique the company's resolution.

I worked at Borders full-time (More than 5 years)

Best big-box bookstore in the US. Sadly missed.

Should have done a better job adapting to the rise of online commerce.

I worked at Borders full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They had good benefits. The atmosphere was relaxed and coworkers were generally friendly.

    Cons

'Cloping' >>a term one of my coworkers coined to describe back to back closing and opening shifts. Generally scheduling was a big con. The schedule was released weekly and was subject to change each week, so advance planning was very difficult. This may have been a large reason the store I worked had almost a 100% staff turnover--including the GM--during the less than 2 years I worked there.

    Advice to Management

This is moot since the company no longer exists. I worked there between 2004 and 2006 (that was not a valid option in the drop down menu for 'last year at employer', but the company went out of business in 2011.
