I worked at Boston Children's Hospital full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

There is no better place to move your career forward, learn, and achieve than Boston Children's Hospital, in my opinion. It is the top children's hospital in the country and a Harvard Medical School teaching hospital. You will be surrounded by people who are at the top of their field. It is an experience you really can't get anywhere else, except maybe MIT, the Broad Institute, Cambridge/Oxford in England, the Mayo Clinic, or [insert any other freakishly impressive place hahaha]

    Cons

Pretty bureaucratic. If you are fine with 1960's-esque politics and the occasional abusive boss, then you should have no problem working at BCH. (To be fair, though, I worked there for two years and encountered tons of nurturing, kind supervisors. It's just that those who weren't nice were abusive and got away with it and it made me extremely miserable when I worked there. Like, I am a relatively calm person and it reached a point where it started to hurt my health)

    Advice to Management

Please stop condoning abuse. There is tons of research saying that scaring employees into working harder only leads to lower productivity overall.

I have been working at Boston Children's Hospital full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great experience, top pediatrics hospital in the nation

    Cons

Some departments take too long to backfill positions, leaving employees overworked and not compensated appropriately.

    Advice to Management

Provide compensation for extra work due to prolonged staffing issues.

I worked at Boston Children's Hospital full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The beauty of your work is that is is focused on giving the best quality care and services for patients and their families especially in really difficult times. It was a wonderful experience when I started.
Working with a team, tuition reimbursement, good health insurance and retirement benefit options, discounted T and Comm. Rail Pass, company outings and celebrations

    Cons

The Shared Service Center was a start up, it was successful at first. Great department directors have left. Drastic changes and expectations occurred. I believe the current management has failed its employees.

    Advice to Management

    Reconsider the Senior Management

I have been working at Boston Children's Hospital full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Great pay . Great patients

    Cons

They do not recognize employees for a job well ever . If you go above and beyond for 15 plus years you never hear about it . They reward employees for bad behavior. Very sad

    Advice to Management

Pay more attention to your strong workers before you lose them . Reward them , praise them , a little goes a long way
