I have been working at Boston Children's Hospital full-time

    Pros

Great people, stimulating environment and many wonderful stories to tell as a communicator. Overall a well-run hospital delivering excellent care, second to no other pediatric hospital in the country.

    Cons

Career advancement can be a problem, though leadership has recognized this through employee surveys and is beginning to take steps to remedy. May vary by department.

    I worked at Boston Children's Hospital full-time

    Pros

Children's offers a variety of discounts for employee convenience. Discounts for things such as Public Transportation, City Parking, Commuter Rail, Six Flags, Canobie Lake Park and a few other perks.

    Cons

Salary. If you start at entry level it will be really difficult to get an increase worth calling an increase. Try to negotiate your salary from the beginning and make sure it is something you can build on.

I have been working at Boston Children's Hospital full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The name. Working with the kids.

    Cons

Underpaid and VERY under appreciated. Always cutting costs and benefits to staff. Little support for nurses or career advancement opportunities. Most nurses I work with are very unhappy and looking at other jobs at nearby Boston hospitals. Staff get minimal raises, no bonuses ever, expected to go above and beyond with nothing to show for it. We are constantly understaffed.

    Advice to Management

    Show nursing some appreciation please.
