I have been working at Boston Children's Hospital full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    great science
    amazing colleagues
closely associated with Harvard in regards of research

    Cons

Scientists here feel somewhat as second class employees since we're not part of the main focus of Boston Children's (providing medical care).
Being a postdoc with second-class benefits amplifies that view.

    Advice to Management

Don't make scientists regret joining you instead of Harvard Medical School departments.

I worked at Boston Children's Hospital full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

BCH has a motivated staff, a meaningful cause, and a large budget for improvements. Beautiful buildings, but little focus is directed towards research staff.

    Cons

The pay is pretty low for Boston. I'm only speaking from a research side, but it was only livable for a single person. It's a big name hospital so they say the name on your resume is pay in itself.

    Advice to Management

Allow more opportunities for upward mobility. Listen to employee feedback about renovations more closely. Pay entry level positions higher if you want to attract top talent.

I have been working at Boston Children's Hospital full-time

    Pros

Children's is a wonderful company to work for. There is a great focus on employee development and overall collegiate atmosphere. The health benefits offered to employees are reasonably priced and a wide variety of services are also electable.

    Cons

Annual reviews are frustrating because department heads have to end with a balanced team rating. The system is set up such that one cannot get an exceedingly excellent numerical review without another member of the team getting a bad review.

    Advice to Management

It would be excellent to have an annual review system that allows for ratings to reflect the overall performance of the individual without having to take away from the performance rating of the team as a whole.
