    Pros

Work with amazing colleagues on challenging business problems with top-tier clients
Professional development - build skills that will set the foundation for a long-term career in business, non-profit, government/politics, or academia
Strong corporate culture best characterized as collegial, altrusitic, and supportive/collaborative
Salary and benefits set the standard in the industry
Work with a truly exceptional company - a firm that treats its employees with respect and delivers great value to its clients
BCG provides opportunities to work in corporate and non-profit work

    Cons

Work/life balance is tough in management consulting with somewhat frequent travel and time spent working with clients - - - though BCG does a great job of trying to alleviate that, within reason
Real personal growth involves some discomfort as you stretch beyond your comfort zone - if you can't handle that, this job will be tough for you.

    Advice to Management

Continue your efforts to maintain the strong culture of the firm

    Pros

Great brand, you will develop professionally
Fantastic people up through the PL level - though hard to find inspiring partner role models
Fantastic benefits and pay - best pay outside of the financial services industry relative to experience / tenure
Work can be quite industry - get a broad range of functional areas across industries and geographies in a very short time frame - a classic strategy consulting background

    Cons

It has a burn out culture - must work too hard to get ahead
Promotion timing and criteria not well understood or transparent - the company will go back on previous promises, be careful

    Advice to Management

Be transparent about burnout, investment banking culture - don't pretend this is different
Figure out if you want to be a top strategy firm or implementation firm - it's quite hard to walk both paths at the same time

    Pros

The experience you get in different industries is extremely helpful. Also great brand recognition.

    Cons

Management has no respect for the individual consultants - they don't need to have since there are always lines of people applying for each open job. So they can work you until

    Advice to Management

Since management really needs consultants to do the heavy lifting, they should treat them better

"Great company with good opportunities and very poor senior management"

    Pros

Extremely high caliber of consultants, demanding and challenging work, some access to high-level clients. Generally BCG pays attention to work life balance and tries to look after consultant's sanity. Pay is very good, and so are the bonuses. Benefits are excellent, healthcare coverage is superb. BCG gives you the opportunity to travel overseas and work in different offices if you like that, but does not force you to travel internationally. Generally, BCG is not very hierarchical, so partners and managers look for input from more junior consultants. Finally, BCG loves feedback, so you get it frequently and it is very much encouraged.

    Cons

While BCG tries to look after your work life balance, often it does a poor job of it, and you end up working 80-100 hour weeks. In the SF office, management has done a terrible job of communicating with junior members. Staffing is extremely opaque; consultant's input is rarely taken into account; it's mostly about what the company needs and not at all about what you want or need. The day after our CEO came and talked about no layoffs, the office senior management laid off a number of junior consultants masquerading that as the "up-or-out" policy. Extremely shameful and disappointing. I've lost a great deal of respect for BCG.

    Advice to Management

Listen to consultants, respect their comments, provide ways for them to *safely* communicate with you, provide complete visibility into where the office is headed, allow them more control and view into staffing and talk openly about stealth layoffs. It's shameful for BCG to say there are no layoffs and then do them right away behind everyone's back. I've lost a great deal of respect.

    Pros

Development of expertise in multiple industries. Rapid development in project-based work. 360-degree feedback multiple times per year. A good work environment -- a social group of very intelligent, energetic, driven people. Opportunities to create your own path based on your specific career goals (e.g. focus on consumer goods, or focus on social impact projects, or try to develop your analytical skills)

    Cons

Long hours, some limitations in terms of your ability to influence the staffing decisions made on your behalf. In the downturn, the performance evaluations are even more important, and the job selection can become more limited. Finally, some people dislike the travel, but I enjoy it. Some would prefer more "strategy" work.

    Advice to Management

Put junior people in front of more clients. This is done by some individuals, but is not consistently executed.
