I have been working at Boston Medical Center as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Everyone is friendly and hard working. Most people are young so it's a great working environment! Also, they are flexible with hours. Most of the office is women, which is a nice change.

    Cons

Not the best office building or space. Management plays favoritism(like anywhere) and often they forget that as an intern you already have so much on your plate!! They extended you sometime more than you can be stretched. Let full time workers do it! We as interns have school and other commitments. This is why we told you the hours we can commit.

    Advice to Management

Try not to play favoritism. Be more present in the office. Be apart of the team!

    Pros

I enjoyed the mission and diversity of the organization.

    Cons

The Hospital is a Unionized environment. Most of the time the Union is great to work with, but sometimes there are challenges related to process. I had a colleague who refused to follow the union policy. As we moved through the progressive action process, one of the steps was that the employee was given a 3-day leave, with pay, so that she could "decide" whether to comply with union policy. Other employees had to pick up the slack until the employee decided to follow the rules.

    Pros

Excellent management, excellent benefits, good pay, great colleagues, interesting work. Great learning opportunities. Excellent CEO. They seem to really care about their employees.

    Cons

    Parking is so very problematic.

    Advice to Management

Wish you could find a way to make parking more convenient, less expensive. Otherwise, keep doing what you're doing - you do a great job!

I worked at Boston Medical Center full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Exposure to a wide variety of medical situations that give you an experience you can't get just anywhere.

    Cons

Promotions often given to people who don't deserve it while others who work very hard don't get any notice. The comment of " that's just the way it is around here" seems to be the norm instead of trying to make things better.

    Advice to Management

Practice what you preach and work as hard as you expect the people you manage to work.
