    Cons

Large caseloads (over 300), under-resourced schools, lot's of reacting and not a lot of time for prevention work

    Pros

Highest paying school district in nation. Students are awesome.

    Cons

Pushing out minority educators out of the BPS system-
Education is no longer about teaching or educating anymore-it about education management and numbers, which leaves the BPS students in the middle and short changed.

    Advice to Management

    Get rid of themselves--YOUR FIRED!!!!!!!!

I worked at Boston Public Schools full-time

    Pros

If you are a teacher, you will get paid extremely well. The starting salary is $55,000. Most teachers at the school I worked at were making $100,000+

    Cons

I had a very poor experience working at one of the Boston Public Schools. The school was unsanitary. My office was rarely cleaned, probably about once a year, and repeated requests for more frequent cleanings were ignored. Administrative staff were not part of the union so were paid well below market rates, yet expected to work above and beyond normal working hours.

I have been working at Boston Public Schools full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Meaningful work
    - Amazing/Smart Colleagues
    - Nice Office

    Cons

    - Lots of politics
    - Things move slowly (and frustratingly)
    - Not a young culture

    Advice to Management

    - Invest in culture development -- even if projects move slowly and things are frustrating, at least make sure everyone knows each other and can have fun at work
    - Spend some time having (at least quarterly, if not monthly) "all-hands" meetings so that folks know what is going on, what progress has been made, and how their work has helped improve student impact

    Pros

healthcare, dental & other insurance is excellent. Pay is higher than other towns and cities in MA.

Ton of testing for students, lots of hard work and long hours, lots of requirements beyond teacher contracts; diversity sometimes gets in the way of expertise for job opportunities.
