I worked at Boston Scientific full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The opportunities they offer for growth and knowing you are contributing to the health and well being of others.

    Cons

While quality is first and foremost, the line between quality and quantity can often become blurred.

    Advice to Management

There is a need for better screening of temporary hires to insure quality is maintained on the production floor.

I have been working at Boston Scientific full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I've worked with some wonderful people on three different product lines. The work can be, at times, rewarding and you do feel a sense of satisfaction in making a quality medical product that will positively impact someone's life.

    Cons

Of the three supervisors I've had, two were absolutely worthless people who served only to promote themselves and their friends. This facility is full of knowledgeable, hard-working people who are passed over for recognition and promotion in favor of the friends of the supervisor who do less but kiss-up more. Merit, integrity, and hard work will get you nowhere in this plant, it's all about who you know.

    Advice to Management

Corporate-think toadies and self-aggrandizing supervisors and managers on the production floor might make for interesting office chatter, but they are ruinous on the heart of BSC Spencer - your Product Builders on the production lines. I've seen average workers give their absolute all to a supervisor who treats them like a human being and shows understanding and compassion, and I've seen outstanding workers do as little as they can under a supervisor who sees them only as a metric to further their career advancement. You, the management, have stated you want people to love working here? Then show them with actions not words.

I have been working at Boston Scientific as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Pros, honestly there aren't any! When you look at in the past year alone they have been through 62,145 employees, the turn over rate should tell you something right there. People only stay because they have to until something else better comes along! Working retail at a mass merchant is better than working here!

    Cons

Cons, oh how do I list the cons here?
Mandatory overtime, they don't care if you have a family outside of the place, you are forced to work 6 to 7 days a week 10 to 12 hours a day!
The turn over rate for the company has been 62,145 employees from June 2014 to June 2015.
The divorce rate for the company is at 98%! Yes, 98% of marriages fail due to a lack of work/life balance. Know what supervisors and management says "deal with it, it is a job right?". No job is worth losing a marriage over!
The company does NOT care one single bit if you have obligations, either you work or you don't have a job. So serious medical conditions have to go untreated due to the fact that time off is NOT possible if you want to keep your job!
You have to be on your feet for 10 to 12 hours a day, which creates serious health issues with blood flow to your extremities.
You are treated as if you are a commodity, they don't care if you are happy working there or not, it is all about the almighty dollar and if you die during the process they don't care!
There are no safety procedures in place either! Except for hazardous spills, so if you get hurt on the job or something serious would happen there, don't expect to know what to do!
It is a cult mentality. You are a drone! You are under their control! You have to live and breathe their company!
Take it or leave it. Those are the only 2 options!
Offered a position there, realize what that means for having a life! You won't have one!
Then to top it off, now get censored for leaving a review!

    Advice to Management

Knock off the forced mandatory overtime! It isn't working for your company! Wake up and smell the roses from the statistics that are out there about the company! The divorce rate, the number of employees lost over the course of a year! All public record information! You can't expect to keep going with this! This is a huge reason for so many recalls! When you don't have workers that are happy and you have so much turn over you don't have consistency! You can't have consistency when workers won't stay because they don't have a life and you have ruined what life they had!

I have been working at Boston Scientific full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good work environment with good benefits and okay pay. People are accepting, depending on the line and department that is.

    Cons

Very political and cliquish. Some people, especially managers, are quick to choose favorites and make it known. Very seldom come through on promises and raises upon career advancement.

    Advice to Management

Give workers the chance for advancement and better chances at a raise. The product builders do know what they work with and what works best. Don't fix what isn't broken simply because it looks good on paper. Also, standard work is crap.

I worked at Boston Scientific as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Good hourly salary and chances to work overtime to even make more money
    - Many opportunities to learn about how the healthcare industry operates
    - Constant exposure to Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing
    - Flexible hours
    - Close to college town
    - Friendly co-workers

    Cons

    - Most of the time you will be doing validation testing for the engineers, which can get boring after a while
    - No benefits offered (health insurance, 401k, etc.)
    - No mentoring programs
    - Rural location

    Advice to Management

Give co-ops and interns chances to participate in real engineering projects as members, not as peons that do the work that no one wants to. You will make them feel more excited about their job and convince them that this is the place to come when it's time for full-time job searching.
