I have been working at Bottomline Technologies full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I've been with the company for two years, and it is really exciting to see so many great things coming together: Commercially - Business Payments as a space is heating up, and we have market-leading solutions. Financially, the rapid growth in subs and trans and high recurring revenue makes us extremely stable financially. From an employee perspective the best thing is "Working with and for each other" is more than a slogan. There is a real 'can-do' spirit and sense of fun and camaraderie that makes it a great place to be!

    Cons

As a growth company, this is not a place to come and try to just do the minimum or just what is asked. People go the extra mile for customers and colleagues, and really want team mates to do the same,

    Advice to Management

    Stay the course!

I worked at Bottomline Technologies full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The people, reasonable benefits, varied work, average graduate program, private health and share options for the select few.

    Cons

Poor leadership from the Executive team with confusion on company direction, there's focus on certain areas when an audit or IIP accreditation due - and only then, some long serving, senior employees are more of an annoyance than an asset.

    Advice to Management

Invest in your people both with training, mentoring and by addressing salary gaps, especially those who have been there for a while (5 years plus) who see newer people with less experience join the business on a more attractive package.

Focus on product quality - if you're going to sell a cloud based solution with full DR you need to have a DR instance that actually works! Yes it looks great for the marketing spiel but when there's an issue it's clear to all staff and customers the solution is not as described or fit for purpose.

Ensure you have full and robust QA procedures to minimise the number of bugs being released and be transparent on product road maps.

    Pros

Only thing is the team's and colleagues that try to make things run...

    Cons

    Low pay
Horrible workloads and targets set by executives.

Executives are coasting and have become a liability....note it's the same people at the top
Local managers are total puppets and add no value other than saying yes to execs....at the expense of employees

Hell bent on taking money from customers at any cost...in some cases totally immoral
False expectations with customers which leads to disappointment and escalation.

New products are released into New markets without sufficient testing leading to pressure on local team's to resolve in impossible conditions

    Advice to Management

    Focus on customers
    Focus on employees
Don't focus on your salary and shares....
    Clean up at the to

    Pros

This place cares about the people and families. The benefits are great, people are great, just a wonderful place to work.

    Cons

The only con is innovation can be a little slow. New voices can be heard, you just have to push a little.

    Advice to Management

Keep investing in your people, you're doing great!

    Pros

Good community of people, many people often return after leaving. Open office with approachable management. They are market leaders. Company is growing.

    Cons

Departments don't work together, but often against each other. Synergy would make the company run much smoother.

Revenue focus sometimes means quality is sacrificed.

    Advice to Management

Get the departments working together and this will ultimately been much greater success for the company. Make employees feel more valued.

I worked at Bottomline Technologies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Some great perks such as Summer Party, Christmas party, free breakfast once a month, free pizza once a month, well being talks, an element of flexible working and some really great people.

    Cons

Many are overworked and underpaid compared to market rate. America have too much control over the UK and their short sighted approach to hiring and firing clashes with the culture of UK.
Management tend to have a pigeon approach in that they rarely praise you when you have done well but they will happily fly in and tell you when you haven't done something to their liking.
Very high level of staff turnover.

    Advice to Management

Whilst it is all well and good brining in all the "well being" perks to win the investors in people awards. More often not people just want a fair wage for a fair job and some recognition of the work they are doing. Stop hiding behind gimmicks and actually inspire and lead your teams so that some of them actually stick around!
