I have been working at Boulder County full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Many family friendly policies in place including: paid parental leave, breastfeeding friendly, lactation rooms in most buildings that include use of a hospital grade pump, and an infants at work policy. You get a free bus pass to get around town (not just for work related trips). Hugely supportive of diversity and inclusiveness in the workplace. For the Transportation department specifically: The people in this department are some of the smartest and most caring people I have worked with. They truly take to heart that they are stewards of taxpayer money and that decisions should be made in the interest of the community that they serve.

    Cons

Typical bureaucratic stuff. It's also near impossible to afford to live within Boulder County unless you are making a lot of money. The County pays competitively, but there is no way that salaries can keep up with cost of living here.

Low salary. Bureaucratic tape. Some old timers. Not as flexible with time off as private sector might be . Little ability to negotiate salary.
