    Pros

Can't think of any at this time

    Cons

Management is comprised of bullies who want to over work and under pay their employees. There is no appreciation for hard work. They are horrible communicators and decision makers. They are unable to separate their personal feelings from their professional feelings. Employee moral is very low.

    Pros

Experience and exposure to field, Pay/Benefits

    Cons

... Everything else. Not about what you know and do but about how management feels about you. Expect pettiness.

    Advice to Management

Teach accountability to subordinates, REAL staff development-- NOT bullying

I worked at Bowery Residents Committee full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I gained a lot of impactful insight due to the nature of the work and getting a chance to see how these organizations work from the inside. Great benefits. Tons of opportunity for overtime.

    Cons

There were many mandated and unexpected double shifts. This was literally ruining my personal life.

    Advice to Management

I would figure out a way to make the mandatory double shift and call-out policy less horrible.

I worked at Bowery Residents Committee full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very rewarding job which gives you a lot of experience. Very understanding if you need to take time off. Good benefits and amount of sick and personal days.
I really loved this job and I would go back if the pay was better.

    Cons

Great job but bad pay. Some positions require a lot of work but the employees do not get paid as much as they should. For example an overnight Homeless Outreach specialist gets paid more than a daytime case manager. In my opinion they should be making at least the same base salary.

Drama in the workplace, there was a lot of tension between employees and between employees and supervisors. I feel like both staff and administration should act more professional.

    Advice to Management

Listen to what employees have to say about the supervisors and try to resolve the issues in a better nature.

Great organization that helps many homeless in NYC. Many positions available and there is room for moving up within the company.

    Cons

Very stressful and difficult population to work with. Many demands of the job, must have a strong will and thick skin. Must be compassionate and dedicated to the cause.
