I worked at Boys Town National Research Hospital full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

The mission statement, if they were to uphold it. Working with children in need. Sense of friendship within immediate co-worker team. Great pay with outstanding benefits that are unmatched by any company I've ever seen.

    Cons

"old boy network" mentality. Upper management don't appreciate talent and they punish individuality and intelligence. Too many unnecessary middle managers. All managers came to their positions by manipulation and earning "boys town" degrees that aren't valid any place other than boys town.

    Advice to Management

It doesn't matter what advice I give them. I gave them feedback while working their and was punished for it. They are as mentally ill and childish as the youth they care for. They only care about the money from the kids and not their well-being. Shame on BTNRH, you are dishonoring Father Flanninigan's name and mission.

I worked at Boys Town National Research Hospital full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Feeling like you can make a difference in the lives of young children.

    Cons

Management treated staff like a number. There is 95% turn over rate for staff because they do not have proper training and are not paid well for what they have to deal with. Often times there were not enough people working on a shift. Dangerous situations where children are harmful to themselves and or others did not seem to get taken care of in a very professional manner. There were times that nurses were not available...

    Advice to Management

Learn how to care for and teach the children so that they do not manipulate the point card system. Treat the children as people and not numbers. The point card system is very impersonal when you are trying to care for children who have severe behavioral issues and require more care and attention. Once these children go back into the real world situations, they do not seem prepared because they became so accustomed to...

I worked at Boys Town National Research Hospital part-time for more than a year

    Pros

good human resources department, good ethics & values as a company. nursing department seems like the best department to be in.

    Cons

Very expensive benefits if part-time and poor pay compared to other institutions. Poor guidance and leadership by my particular Research Associate. No management skills and lack of knowledge hospital policies, but my "manager" only managed one or two employees. Bottom of the totem pole feeling and no gratitude from supervisor. Not a high paying job and hard to be self-motivated for an ungrateful boss whom you do so much...

    Advice to Management

Research Scientists and Associates may have the skills needed to perform research, but I would invest more time in human relations and managment training if in charge of any employees. Supervisor was very self-involved and did not make her assistants feel like a part of her team.

I worked at Boys Town National Research Hospital

    Pros

    Flexible Hours and excellent benefits.

    Cons

Extremely limited room for advancement within the company. Nepotism at it's worst. Extremely limited room for personal growth. Ideas and opinions are not welcome from anyone not in an administrative role. Pay is marginal, and all wage increases are limited to a annual 2.5% raise.

    Advice to Management

Management is not interested in advice/feedback. They will tell you that they have an "open door policy", however, any advice/feedback given will be used against you in your annual review.
