I worked at Boys Town full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Was able to read and watch TV overnight and did not have a supervisor. Headlight cleaning duties to keep busy

    Cons

No additional pay for overnight, dramatic staff, had a lead staff there that are dressed inappropriate in a group home for boys, no room to move up as I asked to be transferred to a different department the supervisor didn't really seem to care, long training, horrible teaching system only works if you like to be robotic which a lot of the kids said that's how the staff sounded.

I worked at Boys Town full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Can be rewarding, good health benefits

    Cons

Poor pay and almost none existent raises. Management consists of people that have been around for 15+ years and they will never bring a fresh idea into the mix.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to how other successful agencies manage their employees and adapt to their management styles. Pay employees at all levels competitive wages and you will retain quality employees.

I worked at Boys Town full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Kids are trying hard trying to make their lives better !! Enjoy working with teachers and are interested in what it takes to improve their lives !!

    Cons

ZERO leadership from the administrators !!! No supports whatsoever from anyone. Administrators such as the principal are more interested in trivial things such as seating charts at assembles and menus for luncheons than designing programs to help these students to their full potential !!!!

    Advice to Management

Start doing your jobs !! Earn some of that money that you are being paid !! Be supportive for God's sake !!!

I have been working at Boys Town full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The benefits and the close relationships you'll build with your peers. I do not have twenty more words. This is all I have.

    Cons

Management, leadership, unappreciative, disrespectful, childish behavior, clueless administrators. When they give you your job description they neglect to tell you that you'll be written up for not doing the duties that aren't in said description.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the people that actually do all the work. If they all complain about a specific thing, it's probably a problem. Also saying you're "competitive" is your pay while someone at Walmart makes more than your staff makes you look ignorant and naïve.

I worked at Boys Town full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

They do work with underprivileged youth

    Cons

Incredibly political, many moves still motivated by priests.

    Advice to Management

Keeping the same people and rotating them in different leadership positions creates stale ideas and management.

I worked at Boys Town full-time

    Pros

Working with youth. We did have a great consultant until they fired her for no reason.

    Cons

Very unstable with the amount of people they recently fired. We would still be there if this did not happen.

    Advice to Management

You are not fully aware but Boys Town will be losing slot of very talented people. Mostly due to them not believing in job security due to recent events.
