I worked at Boys & Girls Clubs part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The kids where great and we always made it through the chaos. Great coworkers and we always found a way to make the days work eventually.

    Cons

Scheduling was very poor for activities for the children and wasn't facilitated to all employees. Became a problem when only certain coworkers were able to drive the vans and they weren't there.

    Advice to Management

Have a schedule printed out for the weekly activities and what to prepare for.

I worked at Boys & Girls Clubs full-time

    Pros

Very rewarding job, you work long hours but the more organized you are the greater outcomes you will have. Room for growth, that includes a boost in salary.

    Cons

Pay is decent, you will find yourself working harder than what you are being compensated for.

    Pros

Pay for tuition from University of Phoenix

    Cons

They claim they never have any money to pay employees or provide resources for kids. Yet EVERYONE in upper management makes 6 figures and even up to 500,000

    Advice to Management

B e good to your employees they put out what you put in that's why the turnover rate is so high and there's a revolving door and other programs will past you all.

I worked at Boys & Girls Clubs part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Job duties were clearly lined out when interviewing, kids were a blast to work with and daily scheduling was well organized.

    Cons

The hours were strict and conflicted with my class schedule which was the reason for why I left. Some parents were argumentative, but no incidents led me to consider quitting for that reason.

    Advice to Management

The children trust Boys and Girls Club employees immensely but some need to be coerced to speak up if they are having any sort of problem at home. I think a program with more one on one time throughout the day for those children who need it most wouldn't hurt.

I worked at Boys & Girls Clubs part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I thought the management staff I was with was great. They were supportive of me working as a student and were flexible with my hours.

    Cons

The downside that I ran into while working at the Boys and Girls Club was that because it was such a big program, a lot of the little details would get lost. This included the planning of activities and having the appropriate supplies or demonstration for the students.

    Advice to Management

My advice would be to remember the fine details even though it is a large organization. One on One work with the students can be extremely beneficial and should be a top priority.
