I worked at Boys & Girls Clubs of America full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Flexibility, certain teams are good, excellent mission

    Cons

Too political, ego driven leadership. Constant change shows lack of true strategic plan. This is not a good time to join this organization. You do so at your own possible peril depending on the department you’re joining. If coming from corporate, don’t. They won’t respect your experience and may shut you down from enacting things that could truly improve processes, procedures and overall success.

    Advice to Management

Stop saying mission first and actually live it. Good people but fear holds you back from doing what you know is right.

I worked at Boys & Girls Clubs of America full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Lead mentors through modeling correct tactics, tools, and tricks in order for children trust mentors and positive role models that help guide youth to an esteem How to change children's esteem Strenghthened and Sarah ability to believe in themselves and in turn leave them on the path to success .

    Cons

Director said what you wanted to hear and he expected so much more than he or she even put into a job that made significantly more money, then the one running the programs, it is none of the staff, getting to know the members, seeing your parents, seeing the clubs into a functional Sound Station strength and organization so that it was new and success solid

    Advice to Management

I advise the CEOs and presidents of the boards to keep a close eye on the directors don't believe words be present and make sure actions are being solved through. I think it is important for them to be involved more frequently so that they can get a better idea it's a management is there for the numbers, best interest stop Yes, staff, parents, and the community as a whole. Otherwise there representing the boys and girls of America that you only have two say they are doing it and not actually doing it. Therefore in the long run teaching your children nice job, and the community so you never have to follow through with things that you say. This is exactly the opposite of what the mission for the Boys & Girls Club America is. Kind of scary and it's completely unfair should I use. Be more involved don't trust words. or just there for the hours, money, and credit and ego trips.

I have been working at Boys & Girls Clubs of America full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The kids and the club-level staff are why you come to work. You have the freedom to make a genuine positive impact on a child's life.

    Cons

The organization changes direction often and does not follow through with any initiatives. It is evident that all decisions are made based on financial gain. The culture overall does not promote professional development and there is no path for growth within the organization.

I have been working at Boys & Girls Clubs of America full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Staff love what they do, working with kids is extremely rewarding. Pay far exceeds what is available from other non profits, I used to work for the Y and the Club pays $10k more for the same job. Lots of resources to create great programs and a large network of alum and supporters. Great benefits including days off for snow days (great in New England) , 3 weeks vacation as well as sick days. Also an additional paid week off between Christmas and New year. Fantastic comeraderie and coming to work is like a family.

    Cons

The Club is full of “veterans” who have been at the same club for decades, especially at the Club director and and middle management level. This makes it hard to move up as spots are never vacant!! This was hard coming from the Y where the culture was very much to “keep moving, keep growing”. Unfortunately this means many talented younger people seek progression elsewhere when they outgrow their position. This is also means that many clubs are resistant to new ideas and processes as “this has always worked here and we’ve been doing it for decades”. Not always the case, but much harder to bring in new ideas than anywhere else I’ve worked.

    Advice to Management

Help young talented professionals stay connected to the Club by showing them how they can grow within the organization. Post new positions and encourage a culture of professional growth.
