I worked at Boys & Girls Village full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great support staff, direct care with clients, fun activities throughout shift, food is provided for staff if you can call it that

    Cons

Forced overtime/ mandation nearly every shift. No support from superior staff. Updated to cameras solely to spy on staff members not safety of clients

I have been working at Boys & Girls Village full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Working with kids with histories of abuse, neglect and trauma. Teaching kids life skills and coping mechanism. Meeting and teaching some really great kids.

    Cons

Overall the agency is great. The shelter programs need help in reference to management. The turnover rate is ridiculous. Staff get burnt out an unsupported by some of the management . Unrealistic expectations people don't get their days off, always getting mandated and some people are getting spoken to unprofessionally.

    Advice to Management

The program has a lot of potential but there needs to be more put in place as far as training for management. In addition both programs run at the shelter should be reviewed and restructured. The basis of programs are good but I believe need to be reviewed.

I have been working at Boys & Girls Village full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great mission; most employees are dedicated to helping kids and their families

    Cons

pay stinks at all levels yet there is money to pay for leadership lunches and constant unneeded remodeling. leadership, especially at the senior level is very negative. there is no recognition for the number of hours that we work or the types of things we have to deal with on a daily basis for not much more than minimum wage. Raises are less than the increase in cost of benefits so there is no incentive for us to want to do great.

    Advice to Management

Focus on the positive. Acknowledge all the we do right on a daily basis. Assume the best vs. always looking for and assuming the worst. Know that we and our supervisors model your behavior - and it's not always pretty.

I worked at Boys & Girls Village (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The children and families that are served.

    Cons

Senior Management has a financial agenda and has put quality services to families on the back burner.
