I worked at Bozeman Deaconess Hospital full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Increased min wage of entire hospital to $15/h, in process of receiving major upgrades, beautiful location, more relaxed environment than bug city hospitals, great people

    Cons

Wages do not match current economy in bozeman still, a lot of technology still needs to be updated, huge focus (of resources) on construction with employees left in the dust

    Advice to Management

Continue investing in your employees and improving benefits to fix retention issues. Workers will not want to stay when theres virtually no incentive. Billings Clinic will likely force your hand and hurt you in the long run with more competitive compensation etc

I have been working at Bozeman Deaconess Hospital full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Amazing co-workers, supportive team environment. The job itself is amazing experience and super engaging. Great mid level management. Lots of communication and discussion. Great place to start a career in medicine, especially if you plan to continue on to higher education with lots of opportunities for new grads and those who lack certs or patient care experience (as aides or techs). Smaller hospital allows for tight knit dept bonding while still allowing for lots of collaboration between depts. Beautiful views of the Bridgers from the few windows that aren't boarded up for construction.

    Cons

Overall, BDH admins do not care about much other than profit at the top. Everything is under construction right now. They refuse to address the issue concerning extremely low wages for both the state and country, especially when you factor in how expensive it is to live in or around Bozeman. Considering we work in healthcare, benefits are subpar. This has all resulted in retention issues across the hospital. Unfortunately it will take new Billings Clinic in a few years with forced competition to make any change to that.

    Advice to Management

Please pay your employees what they deserve. We are hardworking people that genuinely care but you are driving your best employees away to greener (if you will) pastures by simply not being able to afford living here. This goes for nurses, techs, and aides alike.

    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at Bozeman Deaconess Hospital full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great physicians, good mission - focus tries to be patient centered. If you are a fav, your career and promotions are in the bag.

    Cons

Very corporate environment. Complete new management, many with little to no experience but have the ability to say 'yes' because they are clueless. CEO and Execs don't like people who try to deal with problems early on so patients are not impacted. If you deal with the probs you are told you are too slow or unaccepting of change. Your reputation is tarnished after one time of standing up to leadership.

    Advice to Management

Stop playing favorites; recognize experience has value; CEO, Execs and Directors should realize value isn't always wrapped in a 'yes.' Sometimes value comes as a 'no but let's try this way' to solve a problem.

    Positive Outlook

I worked at Bozeman Deaconess Hospital part-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

I had the world's best boss there (sadly, she is no longer there). I loved working with all of the different departments.

    Cons

The politics at the hospital can be a little much at times; I do believe, however, that despite their sometimes less than positive reputation, they want to do what's best for patients and employees.
