I have been working at Brandt Companies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-mostly a great team to work with
-only company I've worked for that stresses their core values on a daily basis
-important and valuable work on the metroplex's greatest projects

    Cons

-unnecessary employees who are employed because the company has extra money even when they are not adding value
-benefits are mediocre. PTO more than 2 weeks isnt given until after 5 years of work. HR department uses a paper method of renewing benefits (its 2016). 401k matching is not great comparatively.
-no company credit card and expense/travel also not booked easily and electronically through 1 website like most other companies
-you get the feeling that supplier funded trips and company provided hunting trips are only available to male management. Be more inclusive!
-low pay compared to local and national competitors

    Advice to Management

-get more lean with employees... Dallas construction will only be booming for so long. People should earn the right to a job... not be put into a job because of politics or who they know and then kept there because they've been moved there.
    -be more inclusive and welcoming!
-put a stress on and encourage networking

Continue to integrate the field team and project management team throughout the year.

I worked at Brandt Companies full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Some of the sales team are very genuine people. The compensation package was excellent. The technology they use is very good and the IT department is solid.

    Cons

Most of management is very underhanded, dishonest, and shows lack of leadership and judgment when making educated decisions. They will specifically pander to employees who have tenure but are not good team players. Management will also try a new business tactic without any proof of concept and then very quickly change their minds with no basis for doing so.

    Advice to Management

Reevaluate your standards for keeping people on staff. I'm not surprised that the attitude of individual contributors reflects the attitude of poor management.

I have been working at Brandt Companies full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

A growing company that is making money.
Listens to new ideas as long as you present your plans for improvement, not just complaints.
Shows that they try to keep costs down for employees and customers.

    Cons

Have to let people go when a major project ends and there is no immediate job to move them to, but will really try to keep the people who worked the hardest.

I worked at Brandt Companies (Less than a year)

    Pros

I interned at Brandt for a summer, working on the Toyota Headquarters job site. I enjoyed working with my coworkers and boss -- they were all great! I also enjoyed being able to see the ins and outs of how a job went from paper to becoming a building. I was able to walk the job site and learn about how the plumbing and piping worked, how the duct work functioned, etc. I finished my internship long before the Toyota job was finished. I was also paid decently - more than double minimum wage in Texas - for the job.

    Cons

I wasn't given a ton of work to do during the summer. A lot of it was sporadic and unplanned work given to me by coworkers. I didn't have a set job that I was supposed to do every day. This meant that I didn't learn as much about project management as I think I could have learned, but I did still learn some things. I also wasn't given a cubicle to work in. I just worked in the hallway, so everyone was able to look over my shoulder constantly -- especially when I had little work to do. I felt awkward being paid for doing little work and constantly getting bored. I did try to ask my coworkers for more work to do, but they were usually busy and unable to set me up with anything that minute. Furthermore, a lot of the work was simple data entry -- nothing too challenging.

    Advice to Management

For future interns, I think supervisors should have some sort of plan that the interns could follow during the summer so that they touch on multiple topics. Another idea is to have them shadow the position that they are supposed to be learning about (low level mentor is fine), and they can learn from that person and possibly help them with that job.
