I have been working at Brandywine Hospital full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

People that work there and have been there for a while genuinely care about the hospital and the patients.

    Cons

Management gives no thought to nurses and aides with their actions. Short-staffed constantly creating unsafe conditions. Salary and benefits nowhere near competitive with other local hospitals in the area. As a for-profit hospital it is all about the money, not about the patient care and caring for the employees. Things will hopefully get better as Reading Health takes over, but that may take a while to see changes.

    Advice to Management

    Listen to your nurses.

    Pros

Direct management is great! Understanding, genuinely cares

    Cons

Higher management or administration does not care forces high patient ratios with inadequate staffing

    Advice to Management

Hire more staff, visit your floors more, care a little our half as much as your staff does

I have been working at Brandywine Hospital full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The people (patients, and some co-workers) are amazing

    Cons

ALWAYS UNDER-STAFFED, very, very, very bad nurse to Patients ratio (on critical care/cardiac care floors) I have had as many as 7 patients at one time, young nurses who don't have very much experience in charge of floors/ hospital. Hospital Administrators promote people if they like them, if they are pretty, regardless of experience.

    Advice to Management

Fork out the money to pay Nurses with EXPERIENCE to run the floors (Charge nurses, asst. Managers, house supervisors). Choose Nurses to be in charge/asst. managers/house supervisors who are true LEADERS, who do the right thing for the patients and staff- Instead of the nurses who kiss your behinds, are pretty, or who you have known for awhile. Those aren't good reasons for trusting someone to take Charge, mentor, and support a bunch of Nurses who actually love what they do everyday, and live to help and heal people.

    Pros

Sadly I can't think of much. Some of the people.

    Cons

This place is like a barrage of obstacles to try and get your job completed. You have management that only has themselves in their best interest. If your looking for a job with understaffing, poor morale, lack of resources then this is your place. In the end it is the patient's that suffer.

I have been working at Brandywine Hospital full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You get to provide hands-on help for people. It's not a desk job, you get to listen to people's struggles and help them to the best of your ability.

    Cons

The administration is pathetic. The hospital is on an incredibly strict budget; the hospital is also for-profit so the "incentive" to help people always has an ulterior motive. It doesn't take long to see what I'm talking about after starting any job here.

    Advice to Management

I wish it was easier done than said to approach patient and employee care without dollar signs floating in your thought cloud but so goes the nature of a hospital that isn't non-profit. Social services and making a good profit (as well as giving big incentives for coming in under budget) is not going to yield top quality care.
