I worked at Brasstown Valley Resort and spa part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The job was a very good learning experience, it did this by having certain strenuous situations and then having to correct them with proper service and patience.

    Cons

Theres is no set time to when you will be off. You will clock in at 2pm and usually work until at least 2 or 3 in the morning.

    Advice to Management

Make things easier for your workers by having an easier set time for when they will be off. Also actually write people up. Threatening will get you know where.

I worked at Brasstown Valley Resort and spa full-time

    Pros

Enjoyed the people, leadership, and growth opportunities found at this company. I was able to grow and learn professionally and personally during my time there.

    Cons

The biggest "con" to working at this company is the general nature of hospitality. Working weekends is essential, as is working holidays. The industry never takes a break and you will be required to work on days when you would rather be with family or friends.

    Advice to Management

Continue to look at inside candidates to fill roles. These people know the business and your company already!

I worked at Brasstown Valley Resort and spa full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Friendly staff, mostly, and reasonably easy work. Decent hours during off season.

    Cons

Management unwilling to let go of/train/discipline employees that are unwilling to complete required tasks. Low pay, despite workload.

    Advice to Management

Train employees better, not just on hospitality, but on actual job performance and be willing to set standards you back up with discipline. Take employee reviews seriously, and quit pencil-whipping a 90 day review after 6+ months of employment. Create continuity binders/ training binders that employees can take ownership of/take pride in.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Brasstown Valley Resort and spa full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The management team are a great group of people to work with and for. The staff can get dysfunctional; however, if you have a need they are the first to jump in and help, whether it be personal or job related. The work environment is wonderful, safety if a priority, keeping people employed is primary along with growing revenue for owners.

    Cons

The hospitality industry is not for everyone. People who succeed are those who genuienly enjoy working with and for people without looking for the praise. We can work long hours, weekends are just another day and holidays we are here to serve our guests.

    Advice to Management

Keep the morale up, keep the communication flowing and continue to understand you have people working for you and not just a body!
