I worked at Braun Intertec full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Pay and vacation time
    ESOP is a benefit

    Cons

Company policies followed dependent on who you work for
Long hours expected due to ever increasing workload If you don't keep up you're gone
Extremely political Be prepared to "play the game" It isn't how well you do your job it's more about how phoney you need to be
Too many vice presidents, principals, assistant principals, directors and managers
Have gone overboard with titles Receptionist is called the Director of First Impressions
Support like HR, Finance and IT are treated second rate Difficult to reach them or get them to return calls

    Advice to Management

Wise up. You constantly state you want to be the consultant and employer of choice. Stating it does not make it so, actions do. The new internal culture change along with acquisitions and the complex computer system has hit hard with how much all of this most have cost and the huge turnover rate both voluntary and thru terminations. You have one department, Finance, that has had, outside of the top people, almost a 100% turnover in the past couple of years. You appear to want the all mighty dollar no matter how it affects the quality of work performed, the employee or the customer. Brown nosers thrive and customer service is out the window. THE FOUNDATION IS CRACKED

    Pros

Overall great company! Great pay and decent benefits.

    Cons

Two groups of project management. The group that wants you to do what is right! That wants good work performed even if it causes more work for PM. The group that wants everything to pass unless really bad.

    Advice to Management

Stick to black/white, pass/fail, true/false and cut out the lazy PM's. Stand with your field personnel don't throw under the bus!

I worked at Braun Intertec full-time

    Pros

If you have prior experience at doing Civil work and don't expect to get paid for what you do and have no disabilities this is the perfect job/ jobs for you. If you are not contract they will treat you good until you have a review and then all those promisses of making more money go with the wind during a blazzard.

    Cons

These people get contract people in to do drafting work but push you to do the design work along with project management without paying you for it then it's - your not fast enough or you don't know enough or if you have a disability (unless you've been there a long time) they will do what ever it takes to discredit you and get rid of you or make you quit and try to say it was for another reason that makes them look good - but a terrible place to work if you have a disability.

    Advice to Management

    GET NEW MANAGEMENT

I have been working at Braun Intertec full-time

    Pros

Good people that are very welcoming and friendly all around. People generally want to see the company do well and they will take time to help you when you need it. The company has grown a lot recently which has created new opportunities that didn't exist previously. The office is very laid back and you can come and go as you please. Schedules and dress code are very casual which is a nice perk.

    Cons

Like most consultants, they put an emphasis on the percentage of your time that is billable. They are much more reasonable than other consultants in the industry, in that, they give you a lot of leeway. If you are not meeting your billable goal, you will have to meet with your manager to explain why. Sometimes, they lose focus on teaching because they want you to be more billable.

Growth of the company has created a lot of pains. In many ways, Braun still behaves like a small, local geo-consultant instead of a 1,000 person, $100M firm. They lack the functional sophistication of a ENR top 100 firm, which they are.

Managers are very busy and sometimes don't have time to interact with younger staff. Most of them have their doors shut while they are working and it can be difficult to get a meeting on their calendar unless it's for a project they're working on.

    Advice to Management

Communicate better with the entire company. You keep talking about "sustainable growth" but no one seems to know where the company is going.

Managers need to connect with the staff. You won't have a great culture if you don't take the time to manage by walking around. Younger staff don't know who some of the managers are because they never interact with them.

Finally, make sure you don't lose the culture of the company. Braun is a place where people generally have really loved working at in the past. With all the growth and acquisitions, you can lose your culture because you've brought in a bunch of people who weren't a part of your culture.

    Pros

Great people and clients. The company has grown significantly over the last few years as a result. Depending on what you do is a great place!

    Cons

Going through a lot of growth and need to change policies and practices to reflect current business size. Depending on manager you can get lost.

    Advice to Management

Change is needed. We are not a small firm anymore.

I have been working at Braun Intertec full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I was a few years into my career before I came to Braun Intertec. Braun Intertec has a culture that I have not experienced before; from the friendly atmosphere to the focus on career development and support from upper management. I plan on staying at Braun Intertec for many years to come.

    Cons

At times, it is a bit busy with all of the growth and opportunity so you need to be willing to learn on the fly and be willing to be flexible.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work. We seem to be headed in the right direction. Support from upper management and the culture are two key things that keep me at Braun Intertec.
