I have been working at Brevard County Public Schools part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I've been a substitute, a short-term contract teacher, an instructional assistant and a personal caregiver assistant for Brevard Public Schools throughout the last ten years. I've worked with some amazing people at many different schools. I am very happy with BPS. There's always work when I need it and I've been able to select some interesting positions and schools to work at.

    Cons

Like any workplace you'll run into someone whose personality conflicts with your own. It's to be expected. Thankfully it's been a rare occurrence for me.

I have been working at Brevard County Public Schools full-time

    Pros

Great for me! I have enjoyed my time teaching with Brevard Public Schools. The benefits are helpful, but an increase in salary would be nice!

    Cons

Many veteran teachers are not happy with the changes. The district seems to be going through transition after transition. Leadership is kind of a mess at the moment.

    Advice to Management

Have a clear vision for administrators, teachers, and students. Stick with it for longer than one school year.

The school board considers the needs of the teachers last.

I worked at Brevard County Public Schools full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You work with some of the most dedicated & caring staff around.
You get summers off (kind of)
You get to help children, especially those who have need for Exceptional Education services.

    Cons

Long, long hours to get everything done.
You do not have much time to actually counsel students because you are in charge of the Exceptional Education Department.
When you break down how many hours you actually dedicate to the job the pay is not great, and you have to contribute to your insurance cost.

I worked at Brevard County Public Schools full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Anytime working with students. Having summers off - mostly.

    Cons

No work-life balance, no teacher autonomy, bullying from administrators is rampant, poor employee morale overall. Top heavy with adminstration from the disctrict level on down.

    Advice to Management

Hire administrators that care about teachers and will have their back. Let teachers do what they do best and ask their advice before implementing new protocols. Enough data collection. While it can be useful, often it's just checking off a useless box somewhere.
