I have been working at Brevard County Public Schools full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Above average parent support
    Above average administration support
    Good location
Leadership truly makes decisions based on what seems to be best for students

    Cons

The teaching profession isn't what it used to be in general
Too much responsibility that has nothing to do with teaching the subject matter, but that is every district

    Advice to Management

Filter out the information that your teachers don't have to actually have in front of them RIGHT NOW. Save it for later.

I have been working at Brevard County Public Schools full-time

    Pros

Many of the teachers are more than competent, although turnover is very high. At least I have my summers free.

    Cons

Planning time constantly coopted by administrators and counsellors, low pay for the effort and results, lack of real leadership from administrators and faculty leaders, discipline "ladders" are a crock - it takes either commission of a felony or 27 weeks of disruptive behavior to remove a student from a classroom. Students' criminal records are shielded from teachers, disregarding the safety of teachers in favor of the students' privacy.

    Advice to Management

You could at least pretend to care about your faculty... donuts really don't cut it.

I have been working at Brevard County Public Schools part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I've been a substitute, a short-term contract teacher, an instructional assistant and a personal caregiver assistant for Brevard Public Schools throughout the last ten years. I've worked with some amazing people at many different schools. I am very happy with BPS. There's always work when I need it and I've been able to select some interesting positions and schools to work at.

    Cons

Like any workplace you'll run into someone whose personality conflicts with your own. It's to be expected. Thankfully it's been a rare occurrence for me.

    Pros

Admin support is helpful when needed.

    Cons

No central maintenance/technology repair system such as School Dude. When someone finally comes out, a common comment made is... That's not my job. You need... HOW FRUSTRATING!!!
