I have been working at Briggs & Stratton full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

401k is matched fully for first 6% then 4% on the next 7%. HSA is good and on-site health clinic is very convenient and affordable. Dental is also good, standard 2 cleanings per year are free.

    Cons

The production management system slows work down and is the biggest bottleneck.

I have been working at Briggs & Stratton full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I work on the Products side of the business. Briggs owns the brand labels for Simplicity, Snapper, Murray and others. They are very interested in innovation.

    Cons

On the products side, they are not willing to do the proper testing to ensure a quality and reliable product/feature. They don't understand that the customer is paying for everyone's salary and it takes months to find a customer and only seconds to lose one. Some management individuals think they know more about engineering than the engineers. The atmosphere does not promote working together.

    Advice to Management

Upper management from the Products side needs to make a decision of whether they want to offer a quality product or a cheep throw-away.

I worked at Briggs & Stratton full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The company has a great history which therefore gives you the comfortable feeling of stability.

    Cons

The members of Briggs & Stratton do not think outside the box. They have too many people that have worked there for too long and are simply unwilling to be innovative. Digital transformation and any other transformation is an uphill battle and with that anyone who has the courage to explain they are doing the wrong thing for the company will be fired.

    Advice to Management

Think outside the Box and Challenge "Status Quo"

    Pros

I have the opportunity to work in the engine group sales organization. Very interactive, open door policy from our VP, clear expectations, held accountable but not micro managed.

    Cons

Run by accounting practices and our world is not always just black or white. Need to understand our place in the market.

    Advice to Management

Get out of the numbers and remember people are your best asset

    Pros

    Cons

The inner circle of the good ol boy club keeps the kiss ups going and working people held back.

    Advice to Management

Get a clue about people management in plants.
