Pros
Good training and progression. Good views on health and safety. You build great partnerships with parents. A really enjoyable job for those passionate about childcare and education.
Cons
All female environment can sometimes turn sour. Pay not great. 40hr week and you will rarely leave on time. Resources not replaced frequently enough. New children allowed to start all of the time despite lack of staff which creates a stressful environment.

Back-up Care Associate Teacher
Sep 17, 2012 - Associate Teacher, Per Diem in New York, NYRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
flexible, very flexible. Sometimes you do not get any hours. But they do work around your schedule. However, during busy days or months, they will ask you for more availability. offer children routines and activities during the day to create a fun and structured environment. Can ask teachers and directors for feedback or advice. 'Open door policy'
Cons
hardly any hours to work. You should have or will need a second job. Associate Teachers are underpaid. They should make more than 10.00 per hour. Sometimes they function as Head Teachers. In back-up, you must dress professional as if you work in a bank. It's hard to keep up with the children with dressy shoes. The environment doesn't feel "relaxed". Since all the rooms are interconnected, children and teachers hear everything that is happening, even during nap time, which is not good for the children. For example, a child crying in a toddler room disturbs a preschoolers sleep. Or the school age room gets loud during quiet time and awake the sleeping toddlers or preschoolers. The rooms are small and there is not enough lighting in the place overrrall. Bright Horizons back-up needs some major improvements.

Great Company With Great People!
May 25, 2014 - Lead Toddler Teacher in New York, NYRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Bright Horizons shares a common goal with Passionate Educators; such I being the standard for growth and development of the children they provide care for. The staff is very well knit together. Assistance is available for Continued Education.
Cons
Flexibility is sometimes an issue as Directors have hard times with coverage and hiring of substitutes in various centers I have worked in.
Thanks for posting! We think Bright Horizons is a great place to work, and are so glad to hear you have had a positive experience with us.

Management and families are great
Cons
Work-life balance is terrible when you have your own children to take care of after work. Pay is not enough to support yourself let alone a family.

Rewarding but Pay is Pathetic
Sep 2, 2017 - Lead Teacher in Seattle, WARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
This is a great job if children really do make you happy. There is no job in the world where you walk into work and are surrounded with cheering and hugs! That keeps you coming back. And it's amazing how great of an impact you have on these children. The company is generous with appreciating teachers through free lunch, No Pay Day Friday treats in the breakroom, company funding events like baseball games or trips to GameWorks. Parents are really generous around the Holiday's and they can be leveraged for networking into a career you really want.
Cons
Compensation is bare minimum. Raises are YEARLY, and it's usually less than a dollar, despite all your achievements, or extra work you take on. Support staff makes your job so much harder because they lack the commitment to the children that you as a lead teacher have. Bad PTO, (1hour of PTO earned per 40hours of work). No guaranteed vacation. Highly stressful environment. High Turnover. Leadership isn't supportive when children have special needs and additional help is needed.

The environment was very friendly and working with the children has helped me grow as a person!
Cons

It was very rewarding!
Jan 30, 2015 - Teacher Assistant in Chicago, ILRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Bright Horizons really does value the children and provide and nurturing/ rich atmosphere! There were some of the most awesome and caring teachers that loved the children and always had the best interest of the children at heart! The teachers valued all families and was very friendly and welcoming to parents coming in doing drop off/ pick up or just when parents wanted to come in and see how their child was doing! I am so happy I got to work closely with their families and see their child grow at the same time. Being able to see their child light up their face when they learn something completely new! I liked being a part of the team with the children's parent! I know this will help me in my career further down the line helping children!
Cons
teachers being able to go on breaks when it is their time, and more flexible staffing!

Pros
The pay is more than I expected and I've met some really wonderful children during my short time working for this company. I come out of work every week happy with what I have achieved with the children and it is always lovely going to a new nursery to meet new children.
Cons
Most of the nurseries I've worked at have awful staff. Room leaders and managers are rude and undermining to bank staff. There has been many occasions where I've witnessed awful behaviour from staff to children that I don't approve of and it is quite uncomfortable. The hours are too long for the very unimportant job that I do. And even though it specifies no previous experience needed, many members of staff expect you to be fully trained and know exactly what you're doing within your first weeks of working there. It has quite possibly been an overall awful job and I would not want to work for Bright Horizons again.

It was a very disorganized place where children are not learning at a level that they should.
Oct 25, 2014 - Art Enrichment Teacher in Brooklyn, NYRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
I made lifetime friends through this position. Some people and centers are very dedicated.
Cons
The pay is low, there is little to no holidays. Even when centers are closed, many people are forced to dp trainings. Management is disorganized and children are often managed in a way that isn't safe.
