Staff and children lovely but policies backwards
Mar 12, 2021 - Nursery Assistant in Manchester City Centre, EnglandRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Staff lovely children are lovely over all pleasant place to work.
Cons
Sickness policies terrible- got in trouble for sickness after being sick for only 3 days one of these I was sent home as I was vommiting at work. Other people had weeks off constantly and never got in trouble. Even with a doctor's note I got in trouble. The hours are long which is fine but you never get time to do your learning journeys I was always doing mine on my lunch or in the room which took away time with children I highly suggest appropriate cover to allow the staff the time they need to track and plan for children's learning. Pay terrible 17'000 a year even if you have a degree for long hours and hard work.

Pros
Good Benefits A lot of resources for training yourself on line, they have a series of videos and curriculum ideas to implement on your classroom and help you grow. Bright Horizons is pretty consistent in terms of what their structured routines are. They pay for your class to get Early education certified and help you with the application process. They promote advancement in education.
Cons
If you're in a short staffed center it is nearly impossible to get things done or to rely on administration for support because they are busy in a classroom trying to meet ratios. The pay is low for having to deal with bodily fluids and the other responsibilities . The expectations of curriculum, documentation, daily application info, documentation boards, making sure the classroom is clean and kids are safe can feel too high especially when they are not providing you with the proper support. Because the company is very much invested in their brand they focus a lot on the appearance of things, there are policies that don't allow you to decorate your class room. Their priorities seem to be appearance, enrollment and parent happiness. They send their new employees to orientation but do not follow up on helping the individual adjust to the class room routines and expectations so you end up with a lot of new staff or substitutes who are unaware of when diapering time is or how to use the application for updating important info to parents.

Negative experience with staff
Oct 3, 2021 - Daycare Teacher in Fairfax, VARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Kids were wonderful. Parents were very kind. It was nice to have weekends off.
Cons
Staff were abusive…. Yelling and talking down/gossiping about other staff. Always complaining. Talking rudely about parents in front of their kids. Yelling and talking down to kids. Laziness… expecting other staff to do their work. If I ever worked in a daycare center behind closed doors with women all day I would record the verbal abuse 100%. I always informed the director of what was going on and she did nothing. Also the pay is not sustainable and kids and staff get sick every few weeks.

Pros
Environment and staff are great. Friendly. Flexible hours if you're in school
Cons
Pay isn't as good as head teacher and you both perform almost the same task and have the same responsibilities
- Former Employee, more than 3 years★★★★★
Pros
Bright Horizons is a beautiful facility with lovely students and families. The team dynamic is unparalleled with many employees making and developing friendships over the shared experiences. You will learn, grow and develop as an early childhood educator here.
Cons
There is a huge staff turn over which may be attributed to burning out the staff and not paying well. Advancements are promised in the interview process but unless you seek them out your own, it's very unlikely you'll be advanced on your own accord. They promise employees positions and double up on those promises with others.
- Former Employee★★★★★
Pros
The students and families you work with are amazing. The trainings they have for their employees.
Cons
They do not pay well enough to get people who are super qualified and/or mature enough for this line of work. Very few employees I worked with had a 'Team player' mentality and it was a very stressful work environment. It was a very isolating experience where you are alone with your classroom of kids most of the time. Most days I had to wait until my lunch break (i got in at 8am and lunch was at 1pm) to use the bathroom. There were zero team building trainings or communications trainings to resolve the staff issues. The pay was terrible and I had to still be on food stamps while working this position. If you can not afford their insurance you are kind of screwed, also (i was). They have cool benefits besides that but you don't get to use them because they burn you out so much at work.

Lots of changes since being acquired
Sep 24, 2012 - Lead Teacher in Schaumburg, ILRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Great families, great kids and mostly have a chance to be creative and expand your abilties as a teacher.
Cons
*Managment is disrespectful *Pay is somewhat higher but raises are given at managment's discretion and not based on merit *Rules are constantly changing and teachers are not informed as to why the rules are changed; they are simpled reprimanded for not following rules *Teachers are treated as bodies to maintain ratios, not experts in early childhood education
